I'm thinking about a 22lr rifle and was looking into CZ, maybe IZH biathlon. Then I read about some people having a BRNO 2500. Looks interesting, but where do you get one and does anybody have any experience with it? I e-mailed CZ-USA and they said BRNO is NOT part of their product line. So, does anyone know how I can get one of these?

Thanks, John. I did check out rimfirecentral and linked to an article there. It is indeed a CZ 452 with the barrel marked as you had pointed out. I e-mailed CZ again last nite, hope I get some kinda answer. In the meantime, who has one of these CZ 452/brno 2500 barreled rifles and is there an FFL out there who might have one? :)

The 2500 is not a CZ production-line item, it's from a cancelled contract with a middle eastern country or some such thing.

And I haven't seen one around recently. A local shop had them on display up until a month or so ago and I always saw them at the monthly gun shows. Now...who knows. Looks like they're about sold out.

Best bet, post in the CZ forum at RFC and find out who's seen one recently.

There was one left at the Gunmaster in Plano TX last week. The Super brno 2500 is also know as the Ultra Lux or at least thats what the label on the box says on mine.

I have one of these -- it seems to be a bit of an oddball in the CZ line. It is a CZ 452 (stamped on the receiver), but on the bbl is BRNO Super 2500. I have no authoritative information, but I have been told that they were built on a contract for Egypt or Turkey? I have also heard that they were made for sale in the far east for target shooting -- don't know which, if either, story is true.

The physical characteristics are, I think, a little different than the standard LUX, for one thing they have a recoil pad (kinda wonder why a recoil pad on a .22). The one I have has a long bbl, 29 1/2" IIRC, with a hooded front site, and a ladder type rear site. The stock is apparently beechwood, with an orange tint and a decent grain, and is in the European "Hogback" style.

Mine is highly accurate -- the limitation on accuracy is definitely the shooter.

In short, a very nice rifle. I snapped it up just because it seemed like an interesting variation on a nice rifle line, as I already had a CZ 452 American that I really liked. My gunshop had just 2 -- I don't think they are a standard CZ model, so I don't think you can order one.

If anyone has any more authoritative information on the origins of this model, I would appreciate the details.

Sachse: Thanks much for the lead. Called up Gunmaster, unfortunately they don't have it in stock any more :( I guess he who snoozes, loses :banghead: They said they would try to order more (I know its not a production line model, but if there are enough requests, maybe......). Also, I got an e-mail from CZ, said they were part of a limited contract run and they aren't being imported anymore. :uhoh:

Egg: There was a link someone had on the rifle over at rimfirecentral.com. Its in the CZ section, posted about a week ago. A gunwriter did an evaluation on it.

Any of ya'all put a scope on it? How do you like the stock, or would you consider putting a fancier stock on it? I guess I have to live vicariously through you guys who actually own one :D

There have been several threads on the availability of this model posted over the last few weeks at rimfirecentral.

Whitaker guns supposedly still has a few--don't ask me about Whitaker guns, I dun tole you all I know bout dem. It's been referenced multiple times over on rimfirecentral though.

This rifle has been one of the main topics of conversation on the CZ portion of the forum. You can find trigger kits, stock mod information, scoping data (tricky on this gun) and accuracy tests. Sorry, I'm too lazy to copy it over here or even post links.

The rifle was supposedly made for Saudi Arabia, but never shipped. It is not catalogued, and was a limited run. When they're gone they're gone. Prices are starting to climb, and availability seems to be going down.

I bought mine at Gunmasters in Plano, TX. They sold 10 in about 2 weeks, IIRC, raised the prices somewhere in the middle of that run.

I particularly liked the story one guy heard in a gun store...the Ultra Lux was made with the long barrel so 'they' could train to get down and shoot over the backs of their camels.

I was told at a gun show that they were made the way they are to train 'somebody' so 'they' could learn to use an AK or something or other. It didn't make any more sense to me then than it does now.

The one story I do believe is that the country that ordered them kept changing the specs after the guns were in production and CZ told them "See ya."

I knew I should have bought one even though they were getting $299 to $320+ around here and wouldn't accept my offers of $200 or so. :)
Then again, I found a flatout gorgeous LNIB .22 WMR American for $285 so I'm happy.

I got one a few months back. Posted pictures, you should be able to do a search for it. Nice gun. Put an old Bushnell 4x scope on it, but the sights are nice.

It was indeed originally a training rifle for an arab country. Long barrel to mimic the sight radius of whatever they were shooting (not AK). Mine is more accurate than my 452 Trainer which is no slouch.

I am also eyeballing the EAA Biathlon Basic. A guy at the local shop bought one so I have seen one up close. He had a target with one ragged hole. He is a Benchrest shooter and said this one is a keeper. If you can't find the Ultra-Lux (Super Brno-2500) then go for the Biathlon gun, you won't be sorry.

Makarov:
Those are some great pics. Great looking setup. does the UltraLux have a free floated barrel?

JohnKSa:
I'll give Whitaker guns a try. Thanks for the lead. Looked at their website, looks like they have some real expensive stuff their.
