I just received my copy in today's mail:
There aren't many other good resources in English on this company, an arms and engineering giant. Another work I'm saving my pennies to acquire is Czech Firearms and Ammunition: History and Present by Dolinek, Karlicky and Vacha, but that book sells for almost four times as much as this one.
BTW, this isn't about Česká zbrojovka (CZ) in Uherský Brod, but the Zbrojovka Brno story is interrelated. Also, like many other arms manufacturers, ZB also made stuff like typewriters, motorbikes and tractors. There's a whole section on tractors.
This book is a relatively thin (79 pages) hardback, very well illustrated with good photos and illustrations. There's some interesting history for a couple of specific Brno firearms, but main thrust of the book is company itself. Which is pretty complicated -- there's a chronology in the front listing the seventeen different variations of the name the company was know by at different times. One thing I've just learned is that the current company using the Zbrojovka Brno s.r.o. name is a brand under the CZ banner, and isn't really the same outfit -- it was a rebranding of a new, separate company formed in 2007 called Brno Rifles.
It is available directly from the author in the Netherlands. Price, including shipping to the USA, is 45 Euro (PayPal is your friend.)
This looks like one of those books that if you are at all interested in owning, you should buy a copy while you can. Contact the author at [email protected]
