I just finished this for our own Lee Lapin, and it really turned out nice! When I first made the Super Camp it was a 5" blade but this one is 6" and I'm also making a 7" version. :D

1/4" D2 Steel, hollow ground
6" blade, 11" overall
Green Canvas Micarta handles
1/8" SS pins, 1/4" SS lanyard tube

You can't see it but the handle is nicely shaped with a palmswell and finished to a high polish. The blade is as near to a mirror finish as I can get! :D

Valkman, I really really like that blade. The only thing that would make me like it more, would be adding a slight recurve. Can't wait to get the skinner, might need to darken your door again (figuratively speaking of course).

Yea I'm not up to recurves yet as I hear they're much easier with 1" belts and wheels and I don't have any.

Thanks guys and Chip, I'll have to check and see if Lifter still has your knife.

No problem, I'm not in a hurry so it isn't any big deal. I still think that camp knife is sweet, and can't wait to see the larger model. Do these already have a home?

Beautiful knife!

Valkman--That is one pretty blade! Do you do these as a business, or only for people who've saved the life of a family member?

hso, it balances right at the guard or right in front of the hand. I have no idea what "point of percussion" is! :)

I do sell these but these three are taken as the 5" and 7" are for trades and the member here bought this one. I have the steel for a couple more of them and the 6" like that one runs $225 and I'll make Kydex for it. I don't like Kydex but my wife doesn't make leather sheaths anymore. I can go through Lifter at Lifter's Leather and whatever he charges is what I'd charge for a leather sheath.

Point of percussion is the "sweet spot" where the impact of the blade delivers the most force to what is being chopped with the least shock to the wielder. Sometimes called the center of percussion.

Dang, I'm supposed to test these too? LOL

I've never heard of that before, but as far as knifemaking forums go I only frequent one, the one at UsualSuspect.Net. I'd guess it's right behind the curve where it flattens out but I'll have to try it!

hey hso,

with 1/4 " stock I'd bet the PoP is about 2 or 21/2 inches ahead of the handle scales. And that is one sweet looking piece of work Valkman! Kind of like a Sunday-go-to-meetin' Becker or a Bark River on steroids. Nice!

Nifty knife, Don. That is quite the difference from your early offerings with the scalpel-like proportions.

Rick

Thanks! I am changing all of my models except for the small skinner as it works so well. Other than that no more finger choils! I'll also have a fighter and hopefully a guarded 3 3/4" hunter.
