Hi can anybody mention how important the difference is between the super sniper SS10x42M (side parallax adjustment turret) vs SS10x42 (rear parallax adjustment).

It cost $100 more for the side parallax adjustment.

Would be my first scope, so I'm not sure the importance.

Basically it is located in a more convenient location. Take a look at the Millett Tactical TRS-1 4X16X50 illuminated mildot scope. It is more scope for the same amount of money. It comes with a lifetime replacement Guarantee and Millett has excellent customer service. It has over 100 moa vertical and horizontal adjustment.

Read the reviews on Midway USA. I have one and love it. I was also considering the SS scope but I wanted more than just a fixed powered scope and more than 10x power.

First off, no importance that will affect your shooting.
I have the SS10x42 rear focus. I chose to keep the extra $100 in my pocket. The rear focus is a good scope. I am sure that the side focus is good to. You have to make the decission if adjusting your scope from the rear or from the side is more important to you. Same scope, adjustment has been moved.

I have been told by several left handers that the rear parallax is much easier to deal with. Also, side parallax introduces additional linkage. Front and rear parallax tend to be more precise and have less slop. With side parallax, it is good practice to make your adjustments from one direction.

I can't speak to the current production, but in the past .50BMGs tended to kill off the side focus models. The rear focus version held up better...
