If you had 1500 and you wanted to buy a gun rifle what would you choose??
Would you buy an M1A or a M-700 police or an AR-10 Flat-top upper, bull barrel or an AR-15 Flat-top upper bull barrel?? Which would you choose and Why???

A used FN, Savage 10fp-package that has a leapold mark IV scope on it. The scope is worth about $800 itself, and you get the mcmillian stock. Or you could save till you get about $8000 and buy a H&K Psg-1:evil:

Since I am not a fan of assault rifles, I would choose the M-700 Police. Actually If I had $1500 to spend I will buy many C&R rifles, I don't like modern guns too much.

What do you want to do with it?
That is the question you have to answer first.
Personally I already have an AR and a M700 and I want an M1A so that makes the choice kinda easy for me.

I bought the AR, custo-mized and tacti-cool, and still spent way less than 1500 on it. Now if I could get an M1a1 for 1500, I might be inclined to try it, but I hear they're high maintenance ;)

Personally, I'd buy a Remington 1100 Sporting in .410 and $600 worth of reloading components. I don't really shoot rifles that much.

I have a difficult time imagining any standard military caliber AR costing ~$1500 without doodads on it. We're still talking a milled aluminum receiver, steel barrel, direct impingement, and plastic furniture, complete with the "sproing" aren't we?

I might try the AR15 with the .50 Beuwolf conversion. I might also take a Mauser or MN and custom make a long range sniper. I could also pickup a Yugo SKS, chrome line the barrel and drop the rest on aftermarket parts and ammo.

Hi Crowsnest...

I'd buy a Sharps Carbine and a T/C Contender Super-14, or

a couple Ruger #1s and a T/C Contender Super-14, or

a Ruger #1 and a Browning 1885, and a H&A Underhammer rifle, or

Browning B78 +and a few goodies to go with it and a Contender, or

something(s) else. :D

That's a very varied group of rifle options you have there. Sounds like they are all on your wish list, and you're trying to figure out which one to get next. If that's the case, I'd say get the one least like anything you already have.

About a year ago when I was in a similar position, I bought a RRA 20" Varmint (bull barrel) AR, bipod and scope. About a month ago, I bought a Remington 700P LTR, bipod and scope. Both rifles are fun to shoot, the 700 is more accurate. For me, the 700 is also much more practical, weighing in at 7.5lbs with the 20" fluted barrel, it's a great hunting rifle for brush hunting, and can also easily handle long shots should one arise. Since I don't explode gophers at 300 yards, the RRA doesn't really have a practical purpose for me. I doubt it's that much more accurate than a regular 20" HBAR AR, so the fact that it's so out of balance/barrel heavy that you can't shoot it off-hand, makes it a kind of limited gun, IMHO.

So if I were to look at what's left on the list, I'd get a (Scout Squad) M1A... matter of fact, I'm starting to think that a camo stock would make that a real interesting option. On the other hand, if I could ONLY have ONE of the guns you list, it would be the 700.

m1a easy, because i don't have one,and i want one, they are .308 and i personally believe they are the greatest semi- auto rifle ever created!

I'd recommend anything semi-auto, and with lots of 20rd or larger mags.

Me? With $1500, I'd get a RRA CAR-15 midlength SS 16" 1:8" flattop upper ($450) mated to their standard CAR lower ($280) with an Aimpoint CompML2 optic ($360) and an ARMS #22 mount ($100), ten 30rd USGI-spec magazines ($100), and a couple of stripped Stag AR15 lowers ($200) for a rainy day.

I looked at the SOCOM II recently at my gun store. Does anybody here have one? What's the difference in accuracy with the shorter barrel? I'm sure it defeats the whole idea of the M14, but it sure does look mean.

M1A from your list... though for that kind of coin a Colt Car Shorty or M-4 clone could be had.
