Suppressed 1911 or suppressed HK tactical?

Ive been looking into getting a class 3 toy. And I was wondering if anyone knows how easy it is to run a suppressor on a 1911, since i already have a few of them, since I know that barsto makes threaded barrels, getting on wont be a problem. But I was wondering if there were any issues at all(other than sight height), since i never see 1911s with silencers.

My other option that I had was to go buy an HK tactical and get a suppressor for it. The downside is that the HK uses different threads than most threaded barrels, so I couldn't use the same can on an hk and a 1911 (unless I get a custom threaded barrel for the 1911).

Personally, I'd go with a Glock 19. Great gun, works good suppressed.

Im not a huge glock fan, and most 9mm loads are supersonic, but If I did do a 9mm, I would go with my cz.

I have no personal experience, but I've read that they don't work that well on 1911's. Seems like it was something to do with the weight of the can hindering the way the barrel moves.

You can buy subsonic 9mm at almost all gun shops and many Wal-Marts. I think you'll find the .45 louder than a 9mm, suppressed.

Well the 1911 works on a Browning short recoil system, so the extra weight of the suppressor on the barrel would most likley cause reliability issues (i.e. it may turn the gun into a single shot pistol). And if the gun is tuned (recoil springs, ect.) then it may not run w/o the suppressor.

Edit-Dang Zak beat me. Yeah the barrel and slide recoil a short time together before the barrel stops and the slide continues. This is the Browning short recoil system and it does not like the extra weight of the can.

With any non-fixed barrel semi-auto pistol, you'll need a recoil booster aka Nielsen Device with virtually all suppressors. Some come with them built-in, like the AAC EVO-9.

Okay, I figured that there might be problems with running it on a browning system, since its the same reason that you have to tune to run large compensators. So it looks like an hk tactical would be the route to go, or a glock. I guess they make threaded xd barrels now. But im more interested in hammer fired pistols. Only if they made threaded barrels for the fnp....

Suppressed .45 is significantly louder than suppressed 9mm, including the subsonic 147gr loads.

1911s are definitely more finicky, but they can be suppressed and stay reliable. USP Tacticals are easy to suppress, but the only two cans that will not void HK's warranty are the KAC and the B&T. Fortunately, the KAC USPT can is the best and quietest can available.


I would recommend starting into suppressor collecting by getting a .22 can, maybe a 9mm, but .22 is far and away the quietest. Then move into the other stuff. .45 acp would not be my recommendation for a first can.

I started with .22, then went 9mm. I have since bought another 6 suppressors, but my three .22 cans get the most use by far.

The Nexus is an ancient can by today's standards. Look at SWR HEMS II, AAC Evolution .45, and KAC USP/T.

Does anyone know where to get a threaded barrel for a glock 34? What is a good .22 handgun for a suppressor?

Send a Glock 17L barrel to Tornado Technologies and have it cut down. That is generally considered to be the best option for the 34.

Yeah Ive never heard of the knights usp suppressor, it looks a little large, but thats what is deemed necessary for efficiency. Thanks for the info about the nexus

Oh about suppressing a 9mm, what do you think a good hammer fired pistol would be a good starter platform?

The Knight's USP can is the same as their OHG can with a piston optimized for the USP.

The OHG can is the Socom suppressor for the MK23.


KAC USP/T is the next can on my list. I have a KAC NT4 in transfer right now.

My favorite 9mm setup right now is my Beretta 92FS and SWR Trident. Sig P226 Tactical is another great host, as is the HK USP SD. I don't much like Glocks but they do run well, even suppressed. I really like that you can thread a factory Beretta barrel.

yeah I totally did not think of the 92fs, I dont know how that could have slipped past my mind. It is far cheaper than a 9mm usp
