By "handicap the load", do you mean the suppressor will negatively affect the ballistics? In almost all modern silencer designs, nothing inside the silencer touches the bullet. As far as ballistics: accuracy is usually the same or even better, and bullet velocity isn't lowered. In fact, velocity is often increased a small amount in a phenomenon called "suppressor boost".
