So just came back from the VA and they have told me I have lost about 65% of the hearing in my left ear and about 30% in my right. Overall good to great hearing for a fifty something, but I'm only 22. So my question is what suppressor would work best with my planned build. Its a 6.5x55 built on a savage long action I plan on having the barrel threaded for a muzzel brake for while im using it to hunt, but a suppressor would be nice for range practice and when we can finally get them legalized for hunting. Any info is appreciated.

Hey Jungle Man, did you perchance mean 0311 on your signature? I called the S-2 buddy I have and he's never heard of 3011, is that in supply?

Good luck with the suppressor thing, the states are very anti suppressor for hunting. It isn't illegal to use them for target shooting, as long as you have the right tax stamps.

Semper Fi. I just had my C&P review and my hearing wasn't checked when I got out. Seems that my high level hearing is really bad, women's voices and children's voices. Some things are just a godsend aren't they?

I understand why you are considering a suppressor. It may provide you additional protection for your remaining hearing along with earplugs/muffs. I'm curious about the reason you want a muzzle brake on a 6.5x55. Not much recoil to begin with. Aesthetics?

The second most popular caliber shot through our 30P-1 is the .260 Remington (and its cousins). I shoot a lot of 6.5mm and 7mm though that suppressor--it works great. Actually quieter with .260 than .308

Agree with Mathurin...
You don't need a blast enhancer (muzzle brake) on the mild old Swede.
As long a barrel as the woods you hunt will allow will help, too.

Thanks for the info. The muzzel brake is planned more for thread protection than anything else.

BTW good catch mickey I guess my sleep deprived mind couldn't keep up with my typing  But no I was a security forces grunt

After more thought I realized that myself. Of course it should have been a no-brainer. Like I've already stated I was posting while extremely sleep deprived and the first thought was that it would be a great idea then i remembered being around both braked and un-braked rifles of the same caliber and really wanted to slap myself for the utter stupidity of thinking it would be a good idea considering I'm worring about my hearing. Still thanks for the advice.
