Supressor theft.

If it did happen I would ask the local police and/or call the ATF and ask. I'm sure they would want to know.

I have never seen or heard of any ATF requirement to report the theft of an NFA item. I’ve researched this subject before and found nothing.

If you’re worried there’s some extra requirement out there — or you just want to be extra-compliant — you should call the ATF NFA Branch and ask to talk to a specialist. Or better yet, talk to a lawyer who specializes in firearms law.

In my experience, ATF field agents are very helpful in recovering stolen NFA items. (Certainly machine guns, although I'm not so sure about suppressors.) So it would behoove you to report such an event to them right away.

This happened to someone who bought a machine gun from me many years ago. He got the gun back (a watercooled belt-fed Browning), but not some of the stolen accessories.

BTW, the weak link in security is while the item is being transported. This fellow had the gun stolen from the trunk of his car.

I have not researched the law on this, but I know of no duty to report such a theft. With that said, I would absolutely call the local police first, the BATFE second, and my insurance company third. The last thing I want is to look shady in any way that might implicate me in the theft of any NFA item.

Excellent imput people, thank you.

Yes, my thought was call cops, ATF and insurance. I just wanted to be sure of anything else.

Thanks again.

Not only would I do all of the above, I would call the ATF again if it was recovered to insure that they know- to help the chances of the thief getting additional federal charges for possession of an unauthorized NFA item.
