Found an individual wanting to sell some 8mm Turkish ammo he had bought in the past. While none has been available in bulk for some time, a question came to mind on some military surplus ammo recently. Much of the 8mm Turkish ammo released about 10 years ago was soft steel jacket bullets but very high velocity. Are there restrictions on individuals purchasing military surplus ammo with steel jacketed bullets? Recently, large volumes of German surplus 308 MEN arsenal ammo has been released with similar steel jackets. I was just wondering if any of this type ammo is restricted by our government.

Nope. Not restricted. And the bullet jackets are not solid steel - they are alloy, with just some steel content in the jacket material.

Thanks NavyLT. I did not think there were any restrictions but with all the political correctness today, I did not want to purchase a potential problem from a legal standpoint.

Ap is fine to buy, and to sell and etc...
You (unless you are licensed to do such things)
can't sell new AP or import New AP
that is in a handgun caliber...
hence the hate for certain companies that made the first AR pistols...
Also certain constructions (like military surplus that use mild steel in the body) are specifically excluded.

I believe I've had some of that ammo. I got it cheap and it was horribly inconsistent. The best thing about it was that it did go "BANG" and the casings gave me a rebate of the scrap value of brass. Light green bandoliers w/ zinc buttons by any chance?

Sorry to be delayed on getting back to you guys but yes, one concern I had was that it may be labeled as AP. I understand that former Nazi 8mm ammo has been sold for years and some of that may be AP. The Russian 7.62 mm ammo has steel cores with steel jackets but so far as I know, it has not been labeled as AP. Anyway, I just wanted to find out about the Turkish stuff. Long as it is okay, which it sounds like it is, I may consider it. 8mm commercial is fairly expensive and this would be cheaper plinking ammo.
