I handled a P6 the other day and liked it. The price was pretty good, too. I've also seen some P5s and some variety of P7 floating around. I'm thinking that these three pistols would be a nice set to have.

Does anyone have any experience with these three? What do you guys think of them?

Have experience with all three.

Price is usually P7 (most expensive), P6, P5.

For SD use? P7, P5, P6 (and opinions will vary greatly--as we'll soon see--depending on experiences with safety features and dependability). Be aware that the P5 (and most likely the P7, but it varies) have the European heel-mag release; P6 has the more standard "American" release.

All are no longer made (even though SIG makes "similar" models today)--so getting mags, spare parts, etc. has to be considered. As collectables? It's hard to predict collector interest (and NIB guns are better than police turn-ins), so I'll leave that issue alone.

Careful about picking up a P7--it could infect you, and you'll never see other guns the same way! :)

g,
I purchased a P-7 last spring, sold as German police weapon. I bought it just to add the "squeeze cocker" to my collection. It shows a small amount of normal wear in all the usual carried-gun areas and is mechanically sound with box, manual and tools. If I had a proper rig and a spare mag, I would not hesitate to place this gun into my carry rotation. Once you are comfortable with the mechanics of shooting with the "squeeze", it is a very rewarding shooting experience. Field strip/cleaning is effortless.

all three.

they are three of the best.

think you got the 5 & 6 mixed up

the p7 is my favorite followed by the p5 then the p6. the p7 is the most accurate. i think the best made. well just all around the best of these three. the p5 is my favorite single stack da/sa 9mm. mine has the smoothest and lightest da trigger of any semi auto i have ever shot. the p6 is the best deal in the handgun market at this time. you can find one for as little as $259 at some places.

when i bought my first handgun (about 20 years ago) these three were the ones i wanted to choose from. i could not afford any of them so i got the then brand new s&w3914.

when you say p5 you mean the p225 surplus german police pistol. and by P7 the PSP by H&K correct? for the money you would spend on a used pistol you can get a brand new bersa

not quite

when you say p5 you mean the p225 surplus german police pistol

the p6 is the p225. the p5 is a walther that bersa does not make a clone of.

by P7 the PSP by H&K correct?

incorrect but p7s are commonly called psps. the psp was the model name that hk used. when it was adopted by the german police they gave it the the designation of p7. hk then changed the name. an actual psp is very rare. the sig p225 was given the designation p6. sig kept the name p225 for normal production. walther is easy a p5 is a p5.

The P7 (I prefer the M8 version) is one of the greatest pieces of firearm engineering ever concocted.

I bought one of the police trade in P6's a couple weeks back. It was heavily worn on the outside, but very lightly used on the inside. It's been 100% reliable over 300 rounds now, and incredibly accurate. Easily the "most gun for the money" I've ever found.

There are some decent prices on these guns, but the cost compared with round capacity does not work for me.

I would spend an extra C-note and get a used 226 if you didn't already have one.

bought a couple

I bought a couple of P6 (P225) pistols in Fort Worth some months back that were German LE retirements. Basically, the guy would get them in lots of ten or so every few weeks. They were all priced at $325.00, came with two mags, and instruction manuals that were written in German. You could see them all and pick the one or ones that you wanted. They showed holster wear in varying degrees but they had good shiny bores. They both are shooters. I ended up replacing springs in both of them. Really like them. I gave one to my dad so that he could have something dependable to keep the house safe from thugs.

Thanks, guys. These would just be for the "cool factor" and not for serious use; a sort of mini-collection of German police pistols. One is a Sig and the other two look cool, although I've never handled either of the latter. I do want good shooters, though, not lemons. Hence the questions.

I had a bersa and I liked it but I'd much rather have a used P7 over two brand new bersas. The other pistols mentioned are great too and I think i'd take them used over a new bersa just because they are still making bersas and they will remain cheap. Eventually the cheap supply of these used pistols will run out.

I recently picked up a Sig P6 (225). It is a great shooter and reliable. Hard to beat for the money.
