Since I recently (3-4 weeks?) sent in my C&R license request, I have been getting antsy about ordering. I dread that the K-31s and Yugo Mausers among other stuff are suddenly going to run out and then I won't have any to be able to order. How long have pieces like these been available? And how much longer do you think these nice C&R rifles are going to be available in the future? It doesn't appear that the current weapon line of everywhere is going to be retired and dumped on the surplus market like in the past. So once this stuff is gone, what is a place like AIM Surplus going to sell?

C'mon buddy......breath, that's right, breath! :D Calm yourself, there will be plenty of firearms when you get your license - more than enough to break your bank account anyway. :)

It took 4 weeks to get my license, so when it gets longer than that you might want to call the ATF. I don't know the answers to your questions because I'm a new Cruffler myself, having bought on 3 rifles so far.

Some stuff is gone, like the Colt Sistema 1911's, but you will still be able to find what you want from individuals. The rifles that you mentioned will still be available everywhere though by the time you get your license.

There are plenty of the old standards around, including SMLE's, 91/30's and the main Mauser variants. It's likely the rifles with more limited production including K-31's and the Finnish Mosins will run out and start to become slightly more valuable. But so far no big collector's market has emerged for them as it has with rare Mausers and certain US military arms. So you'll still be able to find them at low prices.

Certainly we are on the downhill side of the golden age of C&R (not a whole lot of nations have issued bolt action or semi auto only rifles in the past 50 years), however it shouldn't all dry up by the Fourth of July ;) .

One thing that I have come to realize in the year that I've had the FFL is to jump on a deal when it comes along as it probably won't be there long. The rifles will still be available however the amount allocated for a good sale quickly get snapped up (usually because the details of the sale are broadcast on the net within an hour of it starting).

I hope you are now going to show up at the VMBAR matches on the second Saturday of the month out at Desert Sportsmans.

This stuff has been around since the end of WWII. When I was a kid people were shooting SMLEs, 98Ks, 03A3s................................... They were advertised in magazines and you could order them through the mail just for the asking. I don't see them running out anytime soon. I am more worried about us being able to legally own them than I am about them drying up.

Grats on your C+R, get ready to see ALOT of cosmoline. BTW can't hurt to order lots of SKS's, they seem to sell well.

I had hoped my Mosin Nagant from Big 5 Sporting goods was the last I would see cosmoline... I need to concoct a mixture that dissolves that stuff. :D

Yes it can, when my credit card company sends out the guy to beat me for not paying for it all! I'll order at least one Yugo, after the K31 and MN 91/30 and Mauser.

Everytime they "run out", a few months later they "discover" another "stash". I will try to get a few more CR rifles before years end, but they'll probably be there if I don't have the money....

I dont think were in danger of the whole surplus market drying up, but I do think some awesome deals will come and go, and individual rifles will become harder to get. That said, my licensce needs to get here, its been three weeks since they cashed my check and still no packet :(.

Sapper,

If it makes you feel better, "They" cash your check as soon as they receive it (apparently the .gov isn't held to the same standards of charging upon shipment :D ). Eventually you'll get a package of books from the ATF in the mail & a couple days after that you'll get the actual FFL.

Greg, I was told that before , but the part of me that keeps jumping up in down in excitement every time I see a milsurp I want has some trouble understanding it :). Thanks for the info though.

Amen to that. I can kick myself for the many deals I passed up back when I didn't know what I was doing or was afraid to spend the money.

I hope your right because I missed out on a bunch of good deals. As soon as they find that hidden "stash" of Sistemas, let me know.:D I could use a few more Albanian SKSs as well.

I don't know how long certain guns will stay cheap but I do know that many of the C&Rs being sold today are undervalued. Once supply runs low, the price jumps because the guns are worth more than they are selling for. $39.95 for a Mosin Nagant? Are you kidding me? A tank of gas costs that much nowadays.:D
