I've shot a Hi-Point 9mm pistol before, and to be frank, it was a POS. Pointed like a brick, trigger sucked, sights were off, jammed left and right on Tula ammo.

Today, I went out plinking with a friend and he brought a Hi Point .40 he had. It went through a couple boxes of brass ammo flawlessly and the accuracy was just dead nuts on. We were burning up ammo shooting offhand at 2 liter bottles about 75 yards away that we set up for rifles. The Hi-Point was grouping right in there, and it would get one every once in a while. The trigger was heavy but short, and if you took your time and managed it, bottles at 25 yards were a gimme. I had heard that the Hi Points were fairly accurate because of the fixed barrels, but I was shocked to see how well they shot in the real world.

I don't know if there's that much variance between products, but this changed my whole view of Hi Points and it may have just converted a hater. I was shooting it better than pistols that cost 2-3x as much.

Great! There's a good thread a few back about a 9mm. Strange looking and heavy, they deserve kudos for a great blowback.

I can't complain about mine and the .45 carbine, mounted on my tractor, is as much a firearm as it is a ugly heavy bat! (I think I got a large g'hog because he hesitated and had to take a longer look at that fugly hunk-o-iron sticking out from the fender).

Steel cased Russian ammo. I shot 9 rounds of Russian steel cased 22 LR in an H&R Model 999. Trying to extract them broke the little spring-steel claw that retained the cylinder. Fortunately, H&R was still in business and making parts (slowly) back then. Never again. I have no idea about the accuracy, the busted part is all I remember.

I tried a box of winchester usa forged 9mm, the american made steel case ammo. That was hopeless, they would stick in the chamber and jump the extractor every time. Finally I soaked them all down with Hornady one shot resizing lube and that made them 80% reliable. None for me thanks.

My c9 is accurate and reliable. I have a carbine that seems to be about the same.

Every now and then you'll hear about a Hi Point that was a POS. When the owner chooses to contact Hi Point about it it seems like they always make it right, but often the owner decided to just unload that problem onto someone else instead.

I have the 9mm carbine. It goes bang every time.
With the growing list of "Budget guns" now out there, I would seriously consider the Hi-point if I were in the Market. My brother has one and has shot the hell out of it, and laughs every time someone puts it down. If fact, even though I do not need another gun, Iam thinking of getting a Hi-point just for the heck of it. You can't beat the Price for a reliable truck gun. I see the recoil on them is very light. I think they have a better design than most people think. Too much judgement on looks and not function. However the more you look at them, you can see why they actually shoot well. The heavier receiver is going to keep recoil and muzzle flip down. The looks actually are growing on me.
Man, you can get a New compact for $135.00!
I would not mind trying one out in 45.cal.
Watch this video with Nutfancy. These guns can shoot.
