A while back a friend of mine bought a Hi Point C9 9mm pistol for $159.95. I told him that was money wasted because Hi Point Firearms were junk. Well, we went to the range and to my surprise that C9 was a pretty good shooter. He had a few jams, not many, and accuracy was much better than I expected. He has since fired better than 200 rounds through it and it has become a very reliable shooter, no jams at all on our last trip to the range. So today I bought a new C9 for myself. I haven't shot it yet but I feel pretty confident it should be a good gun after I run a couple of hundred rounds through it. Anyone else have any comments on the C9, pro or con?

I hope you are prepared for the onslaught of negatives comments, and a few outright attacks that will ensue from making such a statement. The gun snobs hate Hi Point with a passion despite the reality that for the money they shoot very well.

Just came back from shooting with my son and GF where she was clanging the paddles on my rebounding steel target (paddles are 5 x 7 roughly) with regularity. She just started shooting a few months ago and this is maybe the 6th time she has used it. Helps her learn the basics without breaking the bank. She shoots well for just starting.

You want a real kick, get a Hi Point carbine in either 9 or 40. They are very accurate and a blast to shoot.

I had one.

It was a good shooter. My tastes went elsewhere and with a little better pay now my tastes got a little more refined. Ended up selling my c9. Now I wish I still had it for a car gun. It shot decent, just a little rough, go get one and ignore the snobs.

I had one of their 9mm carbines as well. Put around 500rnds through it and never had an issue at all. Not too bad in the accuracy dept either. Ended up trading if off to a friend who still has it as his truck rifle.

From my experience from the C-9 Comp I have, a good bargain for a platform that reliably shoots lead down range.

I bought the .40 Hi-Point about 3 weeks ago. I have over 1,000 round through it. The only jams were with Monarch ammo. Very reliable shooter. I will be keeping it for my car gun. I would get the C-9 if I could find one. Pruett's can't keep one in stock. I have a good friend who is a gunsmith. I am considering sending it (.40) to him to polish the ramp and all around just smooth it up.
I will own another Hi-Point!

I bought one a couple of years ago for a truck gun. I've shot it quite a bit and it's gone bang every time I've pulled the trigger. I can absolutely destroy an 8" or so caliche rock with a magazine full at 25 yards shooting two handed. It even shoots the Monarch that stovepipes in my PT 92. Is it a fine firearm? No. Is it dependable and reasonably accurate? Sure seems to be. Is it ugly? Yes, but so are the other plastic guns. It certainly fulfills the purpose I bought it for.

accuracy is a normal bell curve. some good, some bad, most decent.. but reliability is superb in all Hi Point models i knwo of

the 995 carbine is on my "want to get list". I've also been considering getting one of the c9's to keep in the car.

I've had the C9 for quite a while now. No problems. Someone will be along shortly to explain how it won't last cuz it's made out of zink and melted-down Legos.

Don't own one, but I've shot one.

I know a few things about Hi-Point.
They're ugly.
They're blocky.
They're top-heavy.

They work.

If I was on a limited budget or just wanted a cheap fun gun, I'd seriously consider a Hi-Point.

They are made to fit a reliability requirement and a price point. They do both admirably. It would be far from my first choice, but definately not ruled out entirely.

I expect it will be fun to shoot, be reasonably accurate and not jam. Karnak's got nothing on me.

Wow! 12 posts on Hipoint and all positive. I'm glad people with actual experience chimed in and not just the haters who think cheap = garbage and never shot one.

I have a 995 9mm carbine and it's an ugly beast but a good shooter. I would consider the 9mm pistol as well.

I was in a large gun auction a week ago Saturday. I hopig to buy a few guns to sale in my shop.

The auction was public so bidding was fierce. Out of three hundred and eighty or so guns I did not get any. I do not think many dealers got much.

There was a couple of Hi Point 9mm new in the box. They sold for 200.00 each. I was so frustrated I stopped bidding on stuff.

We bought one for my wife three years ago. Aside from a bad aftermarket magazine, we have had no problems. The only maintenance we have done is barrel cleaning and cleaning what we can get at without disassembling it. I've looked at disassembling it, and said nevermind. To much trouble. We have gone through about 3000 rounds of cheap ammo for it.

Cleaning a Hi Point is too much work. I have not taken down and cleaned mine since before Y2K.

These are not expensive guns that have to be cleaned in order to work. They are kind of like a Marlin model 60 rifle. Clean the barrel and chamber ever now and again. Keep it oiled and it will last many years.

A great gun to teach a new shooter on, the heavy chunky slide soaks up a lot of the recoil. Heavy so it doesnt climb the muzzle. Reliable and basic. I can't believe it's as cheaply priced as it is. I don't own one personally but a family member does, it always goes to the range, and it always works.

A local gunshop near me had 4-5 of them they bought from an LEO agency property room and iirc they were going for $69 each with one mag, nothing else, and I was considering getting one but I needed to buy primers.

i have the 995 9mm carbine and the C9 9mm pistol. the carbine is for HD as well as my mossberg 12gauge pump. i have well over 6krnds through the carbine and i think just hit over 4k in the c9. never any problems, im the orignal owner of the c9 but not the 995. both have never had to have any work done.
