I have a SW 6906 that I really like and carry sometimes.

I have been reading on line about the SW CS 9

I cannot find the CS 9 in my area to look at and I do not want to have a shop to order it just for me to look at..to my question...is there enough difference in size and weight to justify buying one for carry

I have owned both and the CS9 is some what smaller and lighter. However, it is still a holster gun. The 6906 was easier to shoot and a tad more accurate. They would be about equal carried in a holster.

The other problem I had with the CS9 was the grip. You either love them or hate them and unfortunatley, Smith (nor anyone else that I am aware of) makes a replacement grip for the CS9. That said, both guns were reliable and fun to shoot. Hope this helps a little.

IMO, no...not enough difference. I really like the size of the 6906 and I'm not a fan of the sub compact CS9.

Yes that does help a lot...think I will just stay with the 6906...I really like the way it handles...in some ways I like it better than my HK USPc in 9mm

Thanks Guys

The 6906 holds 12 +1, the CS9 holds 6+1. While the CS9 is smaller, it is just as thick. If you carry the 6906 with an extra mag, you will have 25 rounds available to you. With the CS9, you will have 13 rounds.
If you are looking for real concealment carry, the Kahr line is really thin, especlially the PM9. Downside is it only holds 6+1, the same as the CS9 but is 16oz vs. 21 oz. and much thinner.

I own both. The CS9 is a single stack and is therefore quite a bit thinner than the 6906. It's a 7+1 pistol, with a 3" vs a 3.5" barrel. I find that the size difference is enough that I almost never carry the 6906. The CS9 is much smaller and much more comfortable for all-day carry.

My main carry is a 6946. I have felt the CS9 and did not feel good to me in my hands.

Stay with the 69xx guns. :)

i have not shot either one, but have held them both. the cs9 did not feel at all like i wanted. the 6906 felt made to order. i would have bought it on the spot if i had the cash with me.

Well...I think they would compliment each other well. Though I do agree that while there is a size difference..it may not be that much of a difference (especially based on body style/size/shape...I am thin so a small difference for me is important..but not enough for many other people). The CS9 has worked out extremely well for me and I am probably going to buy a second one (is that a backup for...the...back up : or do I just want another one...perhaps?).

I too did not care for the shape of the CS's grip. If you need something thinner than the 6906, keep your eyes peeled for a 3913 or the similar (just different slide material and finish) 3914, even if it is a LadySmith model. ;) (And you can't have mine. :neener:) The similarly sized 908 is in current production, but has a bulkier, more squared-off slide than the exquisitely streamlined 3913.

+1 for the 3913. It is basically a single stack 6906. Nice and slim for carry but still has a nice grip, even for larger hands.

JMOfartO:

If you want a double stack the 6906 is the way to go..

If you need a thinner (but not that much) pistol and you can accept a single stack then the 3913, 3913LS, or CS9 would be something to consider.

Actually I call them my "mood" guns.. One day my mood is to cc the 6906, another perhaps the LS or CS9.. Just depends on the mood.

The 5906 is my home defense pistol vs carry pistol. I find w/CT Lasergrips it makes for a good choice for that duty.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them...:D

I have them all, and I like them all...

Grips

I am also thinking about the CS9 or CS40. I hear a lot of people who do not like the hogue grips, I also read a post where someone is cutting the 4013 factory grips to fit the CS40 (A lot thinner). Has anyone thought of cutting and sanding down a set of Hogue "wood grips" for the CS9 CS40? I bet they could be made to fit and thinned out a bunch. I think it would look cool also.

Before I bought my CS9 I read many posts on various forums regarding the thickness, or "stickiness" of the grips..

It was a pleasant surprise therefore to find out that the standard grips fit my hands just fine. I have medium sized hands.

As you mentioned there is a gentleman on the S&W forum (I think that's where I saw it) who takes the full size grips off the 3913's or maybe 5906's and "cuts" them down to fit the CS9*. Apparently the deal works just fine, looks great, and is enough "thinner" to satisfy most folks.

I have no intentions of changing out, or messing with my CS9 grips because the pistol feels perfect in my hand just as it is.

I WOULD consider putting a Crimson Trace Lasergrip on it, but CT doesn't make any for either the CS9 or 3913 series.. I do have a set on my 5906 and I'm well pleased with it.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

* I believe the grip deal is referred to as: "Big Dog's Custom CS9 Delrin Grips".. You might "google" that name if you have an interest.

I totally know what you mean about the fit. I have a 3913 LS with Hogue grip and love them. I was thinking about getting a CS9 or CS40 as an absolute small gun, not to be shot a ton. More concealable then functional. That is why I am researching thinner grips. Part of the trade off for concealed carry which I've been doing for 11 years now. I would also put a flat butt plate on the mag (and I have big hands at 6'5") A gun I could carry whenever like my P3AT. I love the Kahrs and have owned 3. I'm just one of the few people in the world left who like a safety. I would also like to send mine if I get one out to Cylinder and slide for a carry bevel and refinish of the slide.

Another vote for the 6906/3913 family and the safety!

That backwards safety and/or mag safety has saved more than one cop's life.
