SW40xx Sigma. I'm going to buy one I think.

I shot my friends' SW40C (1st gen) the other day, and I think I'm going to go out and buy a newer Sigma. We put about 500rds of varying ammo through it and it never ONCE failed to feed or eject, it was also pretty accurate. The trigger leaves something to be desired, but this is going to be a pure nightstand gun, so it doesn't matter to me. I want to hear from ACTUAL Sigma owners about good and bad experiences with them. Also, I would like to mount a tac light on it, anyone got pics of this? Either with an adapter or a light made to fit the SW style rail.

If you have something negative to say about this gun, and you have never shot or owned one, then please make note of it. The price on this thing is amazing at low $300's for a new one. I cannot find another gun like it for the same price (no I do not want to spend more on a used Glock). This thing serves the same purpose reliably as a Glock so yeah. $350 is all I'm willing to spend on a gun used for HD.

The Sigma is about as close as you can get to a "high-quality Saturday Night Special". The bugs of the first gens are worked out and what remains is a reliable shooter. To be honest, I hardly ever shoot mine anymore, having gone up to an M&P, but I have more than 500 rounds through it, and with the exception of Wolf and some questionable PMC, it has eaten everything I threw at it.
Easy to clean, fairly pointable, good ergos, and cheap. About the only thing I would change, aside from that horrible trigger, is the grip. The plastic, though molded with a grip, is slippery in the hand, especially with sweaty hands. An application of a rubberized compound would probably help a lot. For a "disposable" gun, you can't go wrong with it.
 
I do like the rebates going on right now, makes for a good incentive. I thoroughly enjoyed shooting my friend's 1st gen, it was surprisingly fun. But I don't shoot many .40S&W's anyway, so maybe I just like the round? Haha. Thanks for the opinions so far guys.
 
My Sigma VE is in 9mm and has been great. Handles anything I put in it. The gun snobs don't like them because they are inexpensive. Get one. You'll like it.
 
Thanks man, I've heard nothing but good things from owners, and even the ones with problems seem to get fixed quickly by S&W.
 
Reliable gun with a great (argueably the best in the industry) warranty for under $300, its very easy to do worse! Sure the trigger is not the best, but you won't be shooting it accidently.

The rebate and two free mag offer really sweetens the deal.

I had one and really tried to like it, but the trigger pull was always going to be an issue. I sold it with no regrets and now have an M&P. I'm not a big glock fan, but I'd take the well-used glock over a new sigma.

The trigger pull on the newer generation is a little heavier compared to the original, F model, sigmas. This is mainly due to an added spring in the sear block (added for a good reason). Dry fire a new gen several times and if the trigger is OK for your use, buy it and take advantage of the rebate and free mags.

Be aware that the light rail on the new gen sigma frame is not a standard size and very few lights will fit (none were cheap IIRC). Night sights are available for another $100 or so.
 
I can get an adapter if I need to mount something to it if I cannot find a light for less than 200$. My bro also made a good point; if I am ever in a jam with the Sigma, I can always ugly someone to death with it. Haha.

My 9VE is about 2 years old. Has been super reliable, and with use, the trigger is just fine. The grips feel fine, to me, but the fact that they are part of the frame makes some options unavailable. All in all, this is a fine gun that would serve you well.

anywho. i agree the sigma for the price is hard to beat. i was given one by my brother in law who said it shot badly for him because of the trigger and yada yada yada. by the way it was sw40ve 1st gen. i went to wolff gun springs and they have a trigger return spring of the lightened caliber that really helps with the trigger weight. i think it took it to 7 lbs. which is still quite heavy but much better than the 14.6 lbs. trigger pull mine was putting out. and yes it was measured with the correct tool by a gun smith. so needless to say some punk stole my gun when my house was broken into or i would still have it today. i really like mine and after the new trigger spring it shot even better. i say go for it. and if you want i have a sw40ve stainless magazine that anyone can have if they want to pay shipping on it. it just sits in my top drawer with hopes of someday getting back in a sigma.

I have one in 9mm and after a home trigger job it shoots awesome! I can put all 15 rounds into the chest area of a full size target at 7-10 yards with no more than a six inch spread on target. Personally I think anyone interested in buying one cant go wrong for the price. Granted its not the same as shooting my Glock 22 or my custom Springfield 1911 but it does what its intended to do... put rounds down range accurately and consistently.

I would not hesitate to carry mine defensively, and sometimes do.
