Swaging 5.56 primer pockets

Consistency is the biggest key.
If every round is charged within 1/10th of a grain - 25.9-26.1 gr of Varget.
If very round is seated to the same OAL - 2.225 +/- .002".

My favorite load is a 55 gr FMJ (ya the cheap stuff) over 26.0 gr of Varget.

Now, could it be even better with more expensive bullets?
I may have to investigate that one.

PS: I do crimp my ammo.
Some will say that's a waste, but atleast in my case it just works.

I started out using a Lee chamfer/debur tool to remove primer crimps. Also did the philips head screwdriver method. Doing more than 20 or so at a time became a pain. Bought the RCBS press mounted swage combo and can do at least 50 in the time it took to do 20 by hand. Pay attention to your adjustment especially on the small diameter rod. I goofed setting it once and bent it. Of course RCBS replaced it promptly (and free). Besides spending around $100 for the Dillon, I think the RCBS option is the next best thing.

Hardly worth the effort. My reloads run about 25 cents a round (with cheap bullets). So I only save about $10.00 a shooting secession compared to steel cased cartrages. Once a week for 5 months I doubt I save more that $250.00 a year. Now since I bought a Lyman Case Prep Center ($129.00) it takes about 1/2 a second to take out the crimp on a Nato case and those usless 2,000 (5.56) cases (Free) I had gave me about $400.00 in free brass. And since I ues my (cheap) Lee Classic Turret press to load about 100 cases in a hour and a half. It really cuts into my quality time doing all those chores for the little lady. (so I can go out to shoot on the weekend) And since my ammo is about 1,000 percent more accurate and reliable than the junk surplus stuff, I could just go out and buy a 1,000 rounds of surplus for about $285,00 plus Hazmat free and shipping fees. (when on sale and available) Or just go to my closet and grab 2 or 3 or 4 boxes (50 rounds each) anytime (before, during or even after an election) and go and shoot. (now that is priceless).

Hardly worth the effort.
Jim
