Here's the deal. I have two AR15s that were built on consecutively numbered lowers. I didn't intend to wind up with them both. I went in with a family member to buy the lowers, and each of us built a rifle from them. Later, though, he swore off AR15s and bought a G3 rifle. In the course of doing so, he sold me his AR15 at a price I couldn't turn down.

Anyway, now I have both. One is a 16" HBAR and the other is a 20" Government profile. Both have standard handguards and an A2 carry handle. The 20" has a chromed barrel, but the 16" has a collapsible stock. Basically, they're different but still very similar. For whatever reason, I gravitate toward the 16" rifle more often, and I tend to shoot it far more often. I've also started to look at some AKM rifles, especially a Yugo underfolder that I really like for some reason. I've never owned an AK-type, so maybe this is the time. Because of money and gun-safe capacity, I'd have to sell the 20" if I get the Yugo. I'm curious. How many of you would make that swap?

there's a Yugo with a milled reciever? The ones I've seen and sold have all been stamped sheetmetal....what model is the milled...what do they sell for these days?

I don't really like 20" AR's and AK's are big fun so I'd either do that OR...sell the upper off and build another carbine (probably smarter in the longrun)

PS- found a milled Yugo on gunbroker for like $1100+ I got all excited for a second thought the $500-600 ones migh be milled now! :( Learned something new though...first milled Yugo I ever saw! Boss has a nice polytech milled in an ironwood stock...shoots very well and still "AK reliable" wish the Bulgarian guns where cheaper!

I voted for the Yugo AKM. I have a Yugo underfolder that's unstoppable.

My voting is a bit skewed in that I don't like the AR platform.

If you get the AKM and you're not happy with it let me know and I'll buy it from you. My guess is that you'll like it quite a bit and have a great time shooting it:).

keep it. AKs aren't that expensive, but ARs are. I'd only worry about selling the AR if you fancy something that is gonna cost way more than an AK-type gun; things like an M1A, maybe some nice milsurps like a Garand, an even nicer AR than you have now, etc. are gonna be worth the loss of an AR down the river way more than an AK.

Also, see if you can examine the rifle in person first when you go for the Yugo. My new Yugo is heading back to AIM for exchange soon for several glaring drunken monkey errors.

I'd hang on to both ARs. Odds are you may build another down the road anyway so why not have that consecutive numbered lower to start the new build on. You could sell leftover 20" upper then if you want.

Thanks for the input, guys. I am now cooling to the idea of getting the Yugo, or at least I think. :) I would probably lose money selling my 20" AR15, and I also can't get comfortable with buying a Century anything without examining it first. Unfortunately, no one local has the Yugo AKs, so I'm limited to on-line sources right now. Maybe I'll look later at a gun show or something, but for now I'm thinking I'll hold what I've got.

2 is one.

That second AR is a full parts kit for your main AR.

they swap mags.

This is a no brainer.

Keep the AR, AND get the yugo russkie craprifle.

I have an AK for sale that would be a much more equitable trade. It's a pre-ban Chinese Polytech type 56 with underfolding bayonet. If interested, gimme some more details on your 20" AR...........;)

I got a chance to handle an AK underfolder today. It was a Polish one, not the Yugo, but it had the same basic mechanism for the stock. It looks super cool, but I hated the feel. When I shouldered the gun, the sights would never come into alignment in a natural way. I always had to crane my neck to align the sights, and of course the cheek weld is nonexistent. I think I made the right call sticking with the AR. I knew something just didn't feel right about buying a rifle without having the chance to handle one like it first.

Sell the AR, or atleast the upper(I can't believe I just typed that!!)...

Then buy a 7.62X39 upper, a case of ammo, and some mags;)!!

Still 2 Many Choices!?

I would MUCH rather have two identical/similar weapons that are of the same system, and can share mags, ammo, parts, and accessories, than two that are totally unrelated, yet fill a similar role. Of course, this assumes defensive weapons, for defensive use, not collectibles. I don't understand collecting.

As already stated by another, if nothing else, the 20" AR15 is an immediate spare parts kit for your primary defensive carbine. Longer term, that 20" barrel and associated parts can be swapped.

FWIW, I can't see the front sight of a 16" AR15 anymore, except as a fuzzball, so I moved up to a 20" HBAR, though I now deeply regret selling my carbine; I should have had it rebarreled.
