Swedish m96 mauser opinions

Thought I’d show a pic of the revamped 6.5x55 action. Just got a cleaning from this past deer season.

Thanks I appreciate the comment! I'll be stopping by an atm tomorrow after work and the family friend I'm getting it from should have it in my hands by Sunday evening or Monday at the latest. I'll happily post pics as soon as I have hands on it.

What on earth is the threaded barrel for? Or is that a Bubba addition for a suppressor or flash hider?
Most likely threading is for a wooden bullet blank shredder. Many years ago blanks used wooden bullets.

I had a Swede 96 made by Carl Gustaf. Had a Lyman peep sight on it. That rifle would shoot MOA out to 250 yards and minute of deer well beyond that. It was long and heavey. Traded it for a 303 Jungle Carbine that was lucky to hold a 4” group at 100 yards. Live and learn.

Years ago I ran across this at a gun show. Fellow must have had 50 of them on his table. Also the little acceptance stamps like you see on the S&W Model 1917, the eagle with numbers under it. And several other tools to help “restore” a piece.

Yeah, I recall the helpful guy who for a modest fee would stamp the "star" on the muzzle of your 1903 Springfield and furnish a sincere looking armory card with plausible numbers inch by inch. Instant National Match.

Unfortunately, if there is a way to make more profit…

Mine is a Carl Gustav stamped 1954 I think. Someone started sporterizing it long before I bought it from a coworker. The original barrel was toast so I bought one of those short chambered midway barrels for it and had a smith screw it on and finish reaming it. Then I slow rust blued the whole rifle. Strangly enough I don't actually love this rifle. I can only shoot it with a recoil sheild on. The steel butt plate is just brutal on my shoulder without it.
