I’ve been shopping for a Swedish Mauser for a while now and I found two of them at an LGS, one of them is an all original infantry rifle made in 1907, it’s really nice. But there’s another there too. It has a rear peep and front globe sight unlike anything I’ve ever seen on a Swedish rifle. At first I thought it was some sort of aftermarket sight system. But it doesn’t seem that way, it sits completely flush with the receiver and seems to actually be made for the rifle. I don’t know enough about ‘em to say conclusively whether or not it is actually a specialized version of the M96 or not so I’m asking y’all.

Here’s a picture of it

looks like a lyman 17 series front globe front sight and a civilian rear reciever sight, i may be wrong. the sights will make it a better shooter at least for these old eyes. eastbank.

thats a set of lyman aftermarket sights. made for the rifle but not made by the factory for the rifle.

i got my cg-63 out and took pic,s of the sights. eastbank.

Not a CG 63

Thank you all for your replies so far.

I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt it ain't a CG 63. It's your basic military version of the M96 but with peep sights instead of the regular ones. If I do end up picking up the rifle I will probably remove the sights or just buying the one in all original condition.

I guess it depends on what you want. If you want a collector or a CMP legal rifle, then the un altered M96 is what you want. As for a hyper accurate rifle that receiver site will bring out all that a M96 has to offer. As well as they shoot with the standard sights I can only imagine. Why not just get both:)

That is a Swedish BUSK micrometer receiver sight.
They are semi rare.... If I had been there, you you not have had a choice...

Military service in Sweden was pretty much based upon conscription back in those days. So the Crown thought it was a good idea to maintain a male population who were proficient in rifle use.
So... The Crown lent all sorts of military rifles to various shooting clubs all over the country.
These Crown sanctioned clubs could install match grade sights on these rifles.

On January 22, 1951 the Swedish Army issued a Technical order which approved various DIOPTER ( peep) Sights which had been approved by the FSR ( the Swedish CMP ).
The work had to be done by a military armorer or a FSR certified Armorer.

They had around 11 or 12 sights which were commonly installed.

The BUSK diopter which I have only seen one or two....
The MG Anderesson diopter, which I never never seen even one.
The Elit sight, which is very common
The Faldt rear sight,,,, Saw one once...
The GF Diopter rear sight... These were made by the Military armory I won a few.
The Hauges rear sight from Norway.
The Hellqvist which looks like R2D2
The Halsikte Hooka rear sight which looks alot like the BUSK sight.
The Lyman number 48 rear sight.
The Pramm Rear sight, I have seen lots of these.
and the Soderin rear sight. There are Lot and Lots of these....

Peep (also known as diopter) sights make the M96 rifles even more of a joy to shoot.
