Swedish Mauser

Are 6.5 x55 Carl Gustauf Swedish mausers still available? I seem to remember the gun shops having a bunch of them 10 or so years ago for just over a hundred bucks. How much are they now?

At gun shows these days they seem to be running in the $300-400 range, though you might find a better deal.

Look at allans armoury, he usually has a few posted. They are getting rather pricey. About 15 years ago I paid $69 for one, the last a bit over 400. Price varies according to condition, all matching numbers of parts( many parts are numbered, such as barrel bands, buttplate, trigger guard , bolt release, bolt, stricker, just to name a few) year of manufacture, and manufacturer.

Fantastic rifles, with very high quality.The Swedes along with the Swiss are my favorite military rifles.

Try SAMCO, they have all types including some M-41's.

Military Gun Supply has them in VG for $299. They also have a good supply of Swede GC-63 target rifles, most with diopter sights. I was over there a few months ago and the quality is what they say it is; most of the 63's have club stickers or plates that are uncommon in the U.S.

The 96's are ok; not as good as in the past, but far from bottom of the shipping container grade by all means.

BTW, my first Swede was purchased about 1985 or so. I paid $75 for an Excellent condition 1899 Oberndorf 96.

I seldom see any Swede at less than $250 to $300 now.

The twist rate on most* swedish mausers is about 1:7.9. The M94, M94/14 carbines used a 156gr rn bullet. They'll shoot anything down to 120gr or even lighter very well. Right now, the only thing I ever shoot out of my 94/14 are 123gr cast bullets, and they shoot very well.


*Some of the M94 carbines known as 'School carbines' or 'Gallery carbines' had a much slower twist rate for shooting gallery loads, but these carbines are very rare with probably only a small handful of them being in the US.
