Hey guys,

I have been looking for a scope for my new CZ 452 .22LR in the $200 - $300 range. I have narrowed it down to, arguably, the two best deals in the optics world (from what I have read thus far).

In you opinion, which is the better scope? Why? The price difference isn't too much, but it is something to consider. Also, if the SWFA is a better product, then I would most likely get the 16x magnification model.

My main concerns are light transmission (clarity), repeatability, and durability (I have heard the SWFA has steel internals?). This scope will be used for bench shooting from 100-300yds most of the time, and on the rare occasion, varmint hunting.

One last thing that I would like to know is which rings will guarantee clearance of the rear sight.

Other relevant insight and comments are always welcome!

Thanks,

- The Next Generation

EDIT: Sorry for the misunderstanding Strykervet, I will be paper-punching/steel-ringing out to 300yds. Varmits will live to see another day if they are past 85yds :) Once I get out of college and land a job, I'll most likely move on to a .223 setup as all I can currently afford is the .22LR ammo.

You want this for a .22???

The SWFA is THE quality/affordable scope out there... I'd get that before the Bushnell for sure. But it is more suited for larger centerfire rifles. It is a mil dot scope.

Doubt you'll be hunting many varmints at that range with a .22 either. Not that you can't put the bullet there accurately, just that it has no energy left when it gets there.

A .223 would serve you better for the range and purpose you mention, in which case I imagine the SWFA scope would be fine, although I've only used it on an M14 and on an M24 in the army, both in .308.

I love the SWFA scopes. High quality and very durable. You will be very hard pressed to find a better deal on a scope that offers the same quality and durability. I just would like them to offer a wider selection of magnification/sizes. But I have no experience with Bushnell scopes myself so that is a one sided statement.

The only SS scope I have seen in person was very clear but the mil-dot reticle is pretty coarse.
The Bushnell lacks parallax adjustment.

I was hearing good things about the Vortex Crossfire as a .22 scope from a guy who shoots .22 LR at 200 yards.

I just purchased a Vortex Crossfire, my buddy has been hyping them to me so ill see how they work. Also look into a Wotech (I think im saying that right), ive been very impressed with them for the price point they sell at they seem to offer a lot.

I currently have the SWFA on my AR-15 223/5.56 and it works very well! I would highly recommend that scope for your application. If and when you do move up to the 223 platform, it will perform admirably for you. Good luck with you decision and have a healthy, safe holiday season!

I have the Bushnell on my bull barrel 10-22. I shoot at ranges from 50 to 200 without issue. I really like the scope and have had no issues with it.

Haven't used any SWFA products.
