Samco's latest catalog lists C&R Beech-Stock K31s in Very-good condition at $129.95 and Walnut-stock K31s in similar condition for 149.95.

My K31 (purchased about a year ago from SOG) was listed in VG condition and the metal was immaculate as was the bore, but the butt-end of the stock looked as if a dog got to it and went to town chewing. A little elbow grease and tung oil fixed all that. It's now a mint-looking, sweet shooting rifle.

Apparently, the Swiss showed immaculate care of the rifles in all ways except one; they allegeedly used the butt of the rifle to knock mud/snow/ice from their boots and cleats. This is supposedly why the butts show such heavy wear.

Coronach, you're probably right. I handled a K-31 at a gun show and it felt surprisingly light for a military rifle. It was still probably 8-9 pounds, but it didn't feel it. It aimed and pointed well. Again, it was the oddball caliber of ammo. Maybe I should pick one up while they're still "cheap."

PS Anybody have K31 prices at Cabelas? I might be going up to the one in Meeechigan soon.

And the time on this post is 7:55. Like 7.5 Swiss? I choose to take it as a sign.

You will look at the prices of K31s and wonder what brand of dope you were smoking when they were sub-$200 and you passed on them.

I'm already wondering about what kind of dope I was on when I only bought 6 K-31s at $100/ea or less- wish Iwould have bought 20 more:banghead:

Unfortunately, there isn't a Dunhams nearby, the nearest one is in Bellfontaine, way the heck up north. Though..hmm.. We were planning on going in that direction anyway going to Cabelas..

thanks for the info guys. i always assumed the 7.5 had an obscure bullet, much like the 8mm mauser .323 dia which is ridiculously expensive.

i really wish lee would come out with a lee loader for 7.5x55. then i could really go to town.

but i may have a solution for easy 7.5 reloading after all. last night i picked off the street an old end table that someone threw out. i think with some work ill be able to mount a nice reloading setup on it.

i have the press and scale. all i need now are the dies and a brass trimmer.

Why not go for a nice Long Branch Enfield? I have one that is in mint condition and with commercial ammo, I can put 5 rds into a 1.5 inch group at 100 yards. Thats with the peep sights of course.:)

AIM Surplus is in Middletown (or is it Middleton?), OH (between Dayton and Cincy) and has them for $200 for walnut stocks. This might be a better deal than driving the whole way to That State Up North looking for one. Gas is expensive.

Mike

PS They have ammo, too.
