Swiss knife laws?

I will be leaving for Switzerland later this week, and need advice on what knives to take, and where I can carry them.

I was planning on taking an SAK, not just because I'll be in Switzerland, but because they are fantastic tools.

I was also planning on taking my Buck 301 stockman, for a dedicated cutter.


First of all, what are the knife carrying laws in Switzerland? Blade length, lock or not, etc? What are the places you can't carry one?

Can you carry one, in your pocket, on a train? If not, would it be okay to carry a knifeless one on a train? Could you carry one on a train if it was in your bag? Or a bag from a knife shop?

(Please respond as quickly as possible- I am leaving very soon, and need to know as soon as possible)

Dagger and any knife with two cuttig edge are not allowed.
One hand operated knife with locking mechanism are not in accordance with existing laws.
I don't know what a SAK is but the Buck 301 stockmann is a two hands operated knife and looks like a swiss army knife. Therefore you can carry it anywhere in Switzerland.
Most male carry a pocket knife here.

That's an excellent idea (except for the exchange rate).

What if he brings a new knife with the box, would there be an opportunity to trade for something that isn't readily available over here?

Thanks Col, and yes, I was planning on buying a knife over there. Not sure what, though. Maybe a fixed blade hunter with nice stag, if I can find one. Anyone know any good knifestores around Verbier.

SAK is just short for Swiss Army Knife.

HSO, ad for the exchange rates, it helps when your father works for a Swiss firm and you can charge franks to the credit card without having to pay a conversion rate.
