I am sure this has been discussed already but I wanted to tell of my experience.

While I don't own a full size 1911, I did just buy a Springfield Lightweight Champion. I EDC a Glock 19 in either a Pure Kustom Black Ops Pro or a CB Supertuck. It is pretty comfy to carry.

The SA 1911 I just started carrying. I actually made a IWB type holster. I know the SA1911 is heavier and slide is a little bit longer BUT it is noticebly more comfortable to carry. I don't know if it is my homemade holster or the 1911.

Anyone else experience this?

In terms of ergonomics, the 1911 is light years ahead of the Glock design IMHO.

All in what you prefer. Largely as a result of the widespread 1911 hype, I bought one a few years back. In the end I was basically like "THIS is what everybody is screaming about?" The best I could say was that it was accurate, and that it looked pretty sitting on the table. Other than that, I didn't like the feel, the capacity, the weight, or the design (the safety plunger setup in particular I just find to be lacking). About the only thing the gun has going for it is nostalgia IMHO, and if you're too young to really look at it nostalgically, then it looses a lot of appeal. I eventually, thoroughly underwhelmed, sold the gun.

On the flip side, I rented a Glock 17 at the local range recently, and despite it looking ugly sitting in the case, after picking it up it felt like a dream. It was just as accurate, but fit my hand better and the operation was just better to me. I have already made up my mind that I WILL have one of these before too long.

That's not to say that I'm right and you're wrong - I'm just saying it's a matter of personal taste.

It's probably the holster. I sold my 1911 because well there are better guns for me. I had it and it sat in my gun safe because I never wanted to carry it. I always carried my XD 45 compact. It was easier to carry, it held more rounds and I was just as good at shooting that than I was the 1911. So I sold it, but hey good for you for finding a good fit gunwise.

One thing I've noticed with the Glock 19 is the grip angle makes it a little awkward to appendix carry, for me. The handle wants to point straight up and poke me in the ribs, the way I carry. Even a relatively huge Cougar is more comfortable. That's one thing you might be noticing about the 1911.

But the baby Glock solves that problem by removing half the grip and still carrying 10 rounds.

Yes, I definitely prefer carrying a 1911 to a Glock, and the first CCW pistol I tried was a Glock. I didn't even own a 1911 at the time. Once I picked one up, it just clicked with me and I've been carrying one ever since. Congrats on finding the right gun for you.

To some other posters, I agree that 1911s aren't right for everyone, that's why they make different pistols. Just find the right gun for you and go with it.

Here's mine...

+1 G27RR, Once I tried a 1911 that is what I prefer. As others have stated it is a personal thing. What works for you is best for you.

Don't get me wrong. I still love my Glock but the look, feel, carry comfort, and shooting joy I give my current preference to the 1911. Who knows, maybe in the future my opinion will change. I always really enjoy my newest toys the best until I get another toy :)
