Switching from a Glock to a 1911.

I am considering switching my carry gun from a G19 to a SW1911PD. I know that in order to switch to a 1911 you need to train with the safety. That is fine, I can do that.

Not necessarily. You could switch to a Para Ordnance LDA (light double action) model. Like the name says, they have a very light (compared to a true double action) double trigger pull and hammer release. Para Ordnance has both single stack and double stack magazine models as well as full size and compact barrel length models to choose from as well.

Here is mine, it is a Tac-Four model:

Heya Beefums,

I also have a SW1911PD, I like it pretty well. It is light, tight, and plenty accurate. Also, the takedown on it is straightforward, unlike some of the other commander size 1911's.

I have been carrying a G23 for the last few years for reasons I am sure have been beat to death on this forum and others. Blah Blah.

I sometimes carry the SW1911PD or another 1911, just 'cause I want to.

I have alot of experience with the 1911, so for me the transition doesn't seem to be an issue; I am conscious of which gun is in the holster and which gun I have a spare mag for.

Is this transition somewhat permanent, like eliminating the glock altogether? If not, I see no reason not to switch back and forth if you are competent in handling either one.

I will say that I do carry the g23 far more often, but that is for reasons beyond the scope of what is being discussed here.

Good Luck,

Z

It is really hard to find a 1911 out of the box that you can depend on. I own a few 1911's but I carry a Glock. I started carrying a 1911 but switched to a Glock. I was told all the stories about plastic guns and tupawear. My 1911's didn't like this ammo or these mags. My Kimber is the prettiest gun I have ever owned and it shoots 98% of the time. maybe one FTF or FTE in 500. That does not cut it for me. My Glock could care less about anything. It fires everything I put in to it, it does not mind being dirty, it just keeps going and going. If had to choose between a picky 1911 or a Glock that just keeps going and going to trust my life with then I choose the Glock. If you can't afford both then you should think twice before you make your mind up.:)

I went from DAO pistols to a SW1911 without a hitch.

I found that I shot so much better with the SW1911, I did not want to go back (when I can manage a cover garment).
