I recently bought a Weatherby Vanguard with a synthetic stock. I have shot it several times and it groups 100 gr bullets at approximately 1MOA and 87 gr bullets a little tighter. Really not bad at all.

However the stock is "point" bedded" on the end of the stock and the sides of the stock touch the barrel the entire lenght of the stock. My question is, has anyone tried getting the stock off the barrel (dremmel) or floating the barrel of a synthetic stocked gun and how did it work?

Thanks.

In the old days before decent bedding material was available and all the stocks were wood, many rifles had pressure points at the forend tip to stabilize the barrel and to minimize the effects of wood warpage. With modern synthetic stocks and stable bedding compounds, most shooters find that a well bedded action and a free floated barrel give the best accuracy and minimize point of impact shifts.
