I just ordered a T/C 54 cal caplock Hawken from Fox Ridge to be used for BP competition and for early antlerless deer&elk in Idaho. Can someone please advise - is there an equivalent of a "snap cap" that one can purchase in order to dry fire a caplock without damage to the nipple?

Thanks in advance!

dry firing

just get a small piece of vacuum hose and put over the nipple. chuck-ia

Why not just set the trigger without cocking the hammer? It will have the same feel as dryfiring as the set trigger is pulled without any damage to the hammer or nipple.

Thanks for the very informative replies!

..I found all of them very helpful!

If you want to dry fire, you'll need to improvise a snap cap. I've seen leather, washers, tubing, even caps filled with silicone used. I talked to the guy at Blackjack Buffers about making snap caps for us even. I wish someone would make them.
