Hi guys,
I just found a Thompson/Center Hawken 45 cal. percussion at a gun show this week for $125. This is like finding the Holy Grail for me because my father shoots one (he's had one for over 30 years, and it still shoots a bull @ 50-100 yds, and in fact, supplemented his bp collection with the Cleland Match Hawken as well). I had always looked at that gun hanging on antiqued brass hooks he has in the basement with sheer amazement and awe. Finally, this weekend, he and I went to an antique arms show in Lapeer, Mich. and found this beauty sitting on a table and the guy selling it asked minimum of 125, sold!!! The serial no. for this gun is 107xxx. Anybody have any idea how old this is? I see current production T/C Hawkens have serial nos. around the 50xxxx range. Also, i have noticed that they do not make this rifle in 45 cal. anymore. I know that T/C has been making this firearm for a long time (30+ yrs). I called T/C, and unfortunately, they were not able to give me a year of manufacture because apparently they had a fire that burned down half the factory in 1997 and lost their records at that time. I would like to know how old the rifle is just out of curiosity, as it has a few dings and scratches in the stock (what I proudly call "character"). The lock is still strong and the dual-set triggers are still crisp, the barrel, while having a little of the bluing worn off on the muzzle, still looks good as well. Can't wait for the weather to warm up some to go play with this new toy. Just looking for a vintage/year of manufacture for sake of curiosity. Any help is greatly appreciated.
