T.C. Maxie Hunter In R.O.A.

The T.Center maxie hunter bullet is available in two weights in 45 caliber:225 and 255gr. I bought a box of 255gr today and discovered that they are a perfect fit in my Ruger Old Army! I can fit about 38gr of H777 under the bullet with room for a .030 fiber wad, also(which protects the bullets base). I achieved a 2" group at 25yds, And the lube on the bullet seemed to work well with the H777 powder. I beleive that it will make a fine bullet for backup on a wild hog hunt this fall. Also, the 225gr with heavier charges should be adequate for whitetails if the shots are kept reasonably close. The only drawback is that the factory pre-lubed bullets are around $9.50 per 20, so one would have to buy a mold(if available) to be economical. The bullets slide easily into the chabmers, and shave lightly on the last bearing band, and seem to stay put under recoil of heavier charges

T.C. Bullet

I could Be mistaken about the Maxi hunter being available in 225gr, probably confused with Maxi ball...The Maxi hunter looks more like a small Minie bullet or a wad cutter with a round, hollow point nose. Reguardless, sure seems to fit my Ruger correctly and is a decent shooter...Think'n hard about a cylinder mod for more powder capacity My un-moded cylinder can ingest around 37gr of H777 with about 1/8" of compression with this bullet

Tha flatter front on tha ringlock hits em harder, that is IF ya dont use tha h.p. version.

I'm sorry frosty, neither of the items that I posted were Maxi-Hunters, but I thought that maybe the ad mislabeled them. Same product with 2 different weights?
You're right about the Maxi-Hunters being barrel shaped though. They have 4 bullet lands, not 3 like the Maxi-Balls do. I have some of those in .50 caliber and they weigh 350 grains.

Have Ca/Saeco .45 T/C Maxiball Molds

While at the original Saeco Factory I was asked by a group of buckskin and fur dressed frontiersmen coming from an area gun show where they set up a teepee and displayed a lot of their goods, long rifles and other equipment to get folks interested in their hobby and BP shooting and this was in 1975. So I made up a selection of the original Saeco Line of custom precision 4 cavity competition molds for them and their friends to cast round balls from .320 to .458 and T/C .45 and .50 caliber Maxiball and half dozen sizes of .45/70 bullet molds for them to sell the bullets and the molds in their travels across the country.

There is a bit of history involved and they wanted to cast up packages of bullets with my molds to sell at gun shows and the frontier meetings in the wilderness areas. Don't know how to spell what they called it. Anyway I made a few hundred molds for them and in the years since I retired in 1979 I have a few extra left of the round ball molds from .320 to .451 and three .45 T/C molds and all the rest have happy owners. I think the T/C weight may be 225 to 245 gr weight and will have to dig in my old paperwork. I just had an old customer buy one each of all the sizes I had left so thought I would check to see if any group still existed to do the same thing.

PM me for pictures of them and they are identical to anyone having my Bullseye, Combat and Bowling Pin Calif/Saeco Bullet molds except with the different bullet cavities which is rather specialized and am mentioning it here when I saw .45 T/C bullets being mentioned.

It sounds like an interesting load. I suspect that it is in the 45 Colt range for power. I may have to get a box of those things and try them out myself.

I'm new to casting fellas...Why do my conicals and round balls have a weight difference of 3grs. plus or minus? I hack-sawed one of the conicals in half to see if the weight difference was caused by a void but no go there. I couldn't find a void at all. I'm casting with old fishing weights..sinkers of different sizes and some pure lead a buddy of mine found at the salvage yard he works at. I can't really think of a reason for the weight difference...the only thing I can think of would be the metal I'm using or maybe the double mold I'm using is different from the other cavity...Lee ROA conical mold and a Lee .457 round ball mold. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome.

Sure, I'll guess.
Either the metal isn't homogenous (same purity) or it's the variation of the casting temperature of the metal and/or mold, or all of these.
Maybe the double Lee mold exhibits more or less temperature expansion because it's aluminum or because they are just larger overall and are more difficult to keep evenly heated or hot?
For some reason, I recall buying only single Lee molds because I thought that the smaller single block would caste more consistently and maybe they do heat up faster and hotter. I don't recall ever hearing any complaints about Lee molds from anyone besides warpage over time, maybe from a lack of lubrication?.
I manually lubed my Lee mold with a very small amount of White Lithium Grease Spray to prevent sticking, do you use anything?

I didn't have any lube so i just used some bullet lube on cast bullets I bought for my .357. You know, the stuff found inside the lube rings, it's red and seems to work great for lubing the ribs and V slots on the Lee molds. Other guys that have used the Lee molds haven't mentioned a weight disparity problem between their bullets. Maybe next time I'll cast a full ten pounds at a time. I was making my round balls in batches, reheating the molds and the metal. I'm new so I figure I'll get better results as I gain more experience. On my first try my bullets and balls were coming out wrinkled. The reason this was happening was because my molds and metal was not hot enough . I've heard that there is a spray Frankfurt Arsenal sells that helps the bullets/balls drop out of the mold very easily. I think I'll get some eventually..not that I've have a big problem with sticky bullets/balls, except the occasional few that sometimes stick.
