Going to be getting a 590A1 soon. THR has a Surefire group guy going until next week. Surefire has a replacement forend with light for the 590 (actually they have 2 models). Anyone have any thought on what's best way to put a tactical light on a Mossberg 590A1? Is the Surefire the way to go (it ain't cheap--over 1/2 the price of a new 590!)

The Surefire design is great but really designed for combat shotguns--guns that will be shot often and in bad conditions, not kept in a closet or under teh bed. If you have the money, the design is great, but you can get a suitable stand-in for less than half the money.

What are the ones that cost less--do you have any links?

This will be a SHTF or things go bump in the night weapon.

I disagree. i find the surefire to be uncomfortable for long periods of firing...its too damn short. I much prefer the hogue overmold forend that compliments my knoxx compstock on my 590a1.

I made a light mount using this

with the Dorcy LED flashlight available at walmart for $20

The light is unbelievably bright for an LED and bright enough for its intended purpose.

Took a little tinkering to fit the combo of said mount, light, and a 590a1grs but it was well worth it, and I now have a light setup that is strong, bright, inexpensive, easily removable, and doesn't crowd up my forend.

Man do I love clones. Surefire can stick their prices where the sun dont shine.:neener:

I do prefer to leave as much original equipment in place as possible. The rail mount looks interesting (and less expensive!)

Just wanted to mention that the surefire forend will contact the Mossberg 590 bayonet lug if not removed. That information comes from the Surefire site.

DOUBLE TRUE. My lug is fat and won't accomodate the surefire without some help from Dr. Dremel.
