Ok...I love the Mossberg 590...want to keep my bayonet lug but am at a loss for a decent tactical light for this weapon. First...I must ask myself: Is a light necessary? I see a few solutions out there...none seem to grab me. What works? I know that others have gone to solution on this...and your answers are?

a light with a remote cord and one of those basic mounts will work too if you dont wanna spend the big bucks on a foreend mount

I have an earlier version of this from Sidearmor. Add a light that mounts to rails and you are good to go. Not sure about 590 vs. 590A1. Check with Sidearmor.

Is a light necessary? The only reason I got one is for a night competition. Depends on what the gun is for.

I was told that the surefire front end replacement did not work with the bayonet lug by those who bought one with the 590

I looked at the Sidearmor rails a couple years back but couldnt justify spending $100 just on a mount. I went with Streamlights light mount (~$15) and attached my Streamlight M3 on it. The whole thing cost about $100 and I can swap the M3 onto my other guns with rails.

Surefire is your best bet. The reason why I would buy weapon a light is because I can get them at a great deal. I'm working on my 3rd one.

Anyways, they are necessary for night time situations of course. I'd get one that emits a wide beam rather than the narrow beam for more illumination.

That would be the only thing I'd get for a shot gun.

I saw one at the range where the dude not only had a weapon light but the dude also had a scope. Too much.

Surefire makes a M70 railed forend that will allow you to keep your "accesory lug." You then can add a light, VFG, or whatever you need to mount on a rail. They are not cheap.... around $140. The current production Surefire forends with lights are not compatible with the accessory lug.
