Dangerous is as dangerous does.

Someone mentioned insects, even. I'll go so far as to include plants, weather, and terrain.

Game animals are only dangerous if they get to you. Given that most people aren't out there taking game down Tarzan style with a knife, there's quite a bit of buffer there with ranged weapons.

There's ALWAYS risk, however small. Do your own risk assessments and act accordingly.

Totally agree .
One of My old hunting partners has a Frankenstein forehead scar ,from a New Mexico Mule Deer no less . Simply wrong place wrong time and that Buck kicked Jess in the head on it's way over him . Bloody mess bled like a stuck pig ,we'd like to have never got the bleeding stopped . I stitched Jess up ,until we could get him to medical facilities ,that WASN'T easy either . NO alcohol I wouldn't allow him to drink and first aid kits DON'T include Morphine or anesthesia . He was just lucky I had sutures and needles .

Decades before I used some fine lure tying monofilament ,because I have another friend who was plastered while in Mexico and lost a battle with an ATC and barbed wire fence at 60+ Mph ,while on a fishing trip !. As I'm the Doc ,I deal with accidents as well as stupidity .

Do you reckon he’d have died from a scalp laceration?

NO but there are a lots of veins which bleed profusely . He could have from the pine branch which perforated his lower right side near his abdomen . I didn't mention that when he got kicked he was already going backwards and fell onto a jagged pine branch full weight . I wasn't hunting with him but two of his boys were ,when his youngest sought us out and explained while going back what had happened .

Speaking of dangerous ; Southern Pacific Rattlesnake aka Crotalus helleri and his cousin the Mojave Green aka Crotalus scutulatus Two BAD AZZ HOMBRES !. Avoid at ALL cost ,as they both carry hemotoxin as well as Neurotoxin . An athlete I knew was 46 when he died from a bite in his second toe . Hiking with a group they had stopped and took off their shoes ,putting their feet in a stream . Short while later he let out a yell ,so a member of their party called 911 gave them GPS coordinates . The Paramedics on Life Flight had him within 27 minutes and en route to the hospital he died 4 minutes out side arriving at the hospital . Total 38-39 minutes from being bitten to expiration .

My Close Friend and former Physician is a renowned herpetologist and was shocked how quickly the Neurotoxin took effect .
Up until that time it was assumed that Crotalus helleri only had Hemotoxin capability . Dr.J and I set out to capture a few specimens so as to prove they had in fact mated cross bred with Crotalus scutulatus or over evolution developed the capability . Either way those two species are DEADLY . My 126 lb. shepherd was struck by one and I got him to a vet within 30 minutes ,he survived but took a bunch of antivenom and was NEVER the same . His rear leg had tripled in size in that short period .

Like most anything these days , I must have died while growing up 200 fold . Later in life I learned it was school of hard knocks ,who knew ,Eh !.

Being prepared for the worst case scenario and never have it occur ,is the BEST trip ; IMO .

I know I'm Never going on a sheep hunt again ,traversing hellacious slopes ,ridges and canyons is for Younger people ,I had MY day .
I'll still hunt but Deer ,Elk ,Antelope are on the menu now days . New Zealand Tar.jpg

Did you shoot that Himalayan Thar? I want to hunt them in the worst way! Obviously I won’t be able to hunt them in Tibet or Nepal but I’m sure as heck going to them in New Zealand one of these days.

Take that kid on every Hunt you can.

Give him a way to be productive and a provider of excellent food. Busy Kids that Hunt and Fish dont steal and deal.
