This is once fired brass from some 9mm WWB.

Take a look at the flash holes on these, should I reload or toss.

Its only 9mm not a loss to toss but I wanted to see what you would do.

I wouldn't worry about it, load em and shoot em. If you are shooting bullseye, competition, then you would need more consistent brass. I doubt you can tell which one are like that when you shoot em.

I've never seen flash holes like that on WWB or any other brand or caliber. I'm not sure if re-using them would be a problem. maybe load 20 & try them out.

Well they apparently didn't cause any problems the first time they were fired...

True. I thought I would ask before I tempted fate... I would hate to win a Darwin award.

As you say it is 9mm. How many of them do you have just 3? If so why bother? Did you shoot them or find them?

I shot them, they are my own pickups.

There are more than three, these are just the worst, I have about 50.

Ummm, mebbe not. I believe flash hole size is restricted to keep "back pressure" low so primers aren't "blown out" (not exactly a good explanation, but if a flash hole is enlarged, like some do for shooting wax, it's possible to "over pressure" the primers and rupture them or blow out primer pockets when used with "normal" loads). Sorry for the poor explanation, I got it in my head, but it don't come out my fingers...

I got tons of 9mm brass, so I'd just toss 'em.

I'd just toss them. Might be okay, but obviously not as designed. Since I got a progressive years ago I haven't seen a 9mm primer pocket since then!

It is good that you are paying attention to what you are doing though.

I vote toss....I mean would you rather toss 50 rounds of brass or have your wife open bottles for you the rest of your life?...what's 20 bucks of brass worth then?...but that's just me ...I'm too cautious

I would toss them. I got so much 9mm brass it isn’t worth a fail to fire.

I just had an epiphany; I know Winchesters WINClean line has larger flash holes... Any chance that they used some of that brass intended for the WINclean line in a box of WWB, those value packs? I still have some value packs from 2012 and this is where those came from.

I am going to throw them away, its just not worth it - but now my curiosity has peaked.

I talked to a guy that owned a fairly large commercial reloading outfit when the winclean stuff came out. He was alarmed to see the larger flash holes showing up in the brass that was returned for loading. He called Winchester and asked if they were going to cause a problem. They said no, go ahead and load them like all the rest. He did, they didn't separate them at all. No problems at all. The larger flash holes in the winclean stuff was because of weaker priming compounds in the lead free ammo I believe.

If they were mine, Id just use them and not worry. If it makes you worry, then toss them.

That looks like your shell holder wasn't lined up with your depriming pin?????

Toss them!

I see no reason not to use them. But, if you have any doubt at all, it is only 9mm and they are cheap. No big deal to toss them.

Not to get off subject, but I used to remove the crimps on NATO brass. I just toss them now. Not worth the effort. I've never paid for any 9mm brass. I was saving it before I started reloading, and when I started reloading I had maybe 500 cases. I've got probably 5000 now. :D I always come back from the range with more 9mm brass than I've shot.

Toss. We don't know what happens with these.

But, maybe for the rest of us....load a few up and chrony them compared to your normal loads. Doubt there's a difference, but might be interesting to find out.

Actually, the Diazodinitrophenol (DDNP) priming compound has a much higher brisance than the Lead Styphnate priming compound. The enlarged flash holes were/are to reduce the pressure faster with the DDNP primers.

Hope this helps.

These are once fired that I shot myself, came from a box of WWB from 2012; so they were manufactured this way.

I tossed the ones with over sized flash holes just for peace of mind.

having my wife open bottles for me the rest of my life is pretty tempting...

if i asked her to do so currently, i'm afraid she'd laugh hysterically for hours

Braze them up and then machine them back to normal.

Just kidding. I wouldn't worry about it a bit. I would be tempted to load some of them up, then build some otherwise identical, but with "normal" orifices, and see how they may differ in feel, or over a chrono.
