Take the Carry Handle Off?

I just bought a Nikon P-223 3-9 x 40 Rifle Scope. It came with mounts. I have a Windham Weaponry fixed front iron sight AR with a carry handle. I have another fixed front iron sight AR with no carry handle. It is my first home-made AR and the one I shoot the most.

I got a good deal on the Nikon scope and figured I could use it for varmint (hog) hunting at a reasonable distance. I also want to get a red dot for "playing" at a shorter distance and two eyed shooting. I figured I would put the red dot on the Frankenstein AR with no carry handle.

Does anyone have/use an AR with a carry handle and a scope like the Nikon mentioned above? Is it practical to shoot this way or should I take the carry handle off. I have not done any modifications to the WW other than put a rail mount on the carry handle.

As always, I appreciate your comments.

If you have a flat top upper, by all means take the carry handle off.
Putting an optic on top of a fixed carry handle upper is doable.

But certainly not advised on a removable carry handle if you have a flat-top rail under it.
Which you do.

Why buy a carry handle mount, then rings when you have a correct height mount that came with the scope already? Pretty easy choice.:)

See, this is why I posted. Just needed someone to "make sense" for me until it made sense to me. I was trying to "preserve" the WW and in my mind that meant leaving the carry handle on.

Thank you both!

Carry handle mount scopes should be compact like a Colt 3x or 4x or an ACOG. A scope like that should be mounted on the flat top.

Put the scope on the flat top and a small red dot on the carry handle, a bit high but works pretty well. But I suspect you'll end up removing the carry handle in any event eventually.
