Greetings,

I need a solution (Smart asses please avoid to comment).

I had a cheap scope mounted on my AR and I changed it for a better scope.

The previous scope was shorter and the rear of it was ending about where the carry handle stops. (Grey part on the picture)

Now, with the new scope, it is about 1 1/2" behind the carry handle. (see picture).

I use Irons sights a lot. And I plan to continue to use them. So, I need to keep the carry handle on. When I shoot Iron, I put my nose on the charging handle. Now, the scope hits my forehead each time I shoot.

Anyone can point me to a solution to mount the scope more forward on the carry handle?

Thank you

I bit more expensive, but you could free float the barrel and get a quad rail with the extended top rail. I had to do it for a goofy NV scope I have.

Aimpoint Gooseneck mount puts it more forward, but lower. I don't really know where you're going to get with this one. QD mount for the scope, maybe? Then you could go back and forth pretty quick, and they keep zero pretty well. It may just be the wrong scope to try that with.

Hell, put both rings on the back of the scope and slide it forward two inches. It'll look goofy, but may hold zero.

Take off the carry handle, get a free float quad rail, get extra high scope rings, buy flip up buis, and mount the scope forward on the quad rail sights behind the scope and you will see the sights through the rings.

Or you could just take off the carry handle and mount the scope to the upper reciever rail. I would use a GG&G accucam base to mount the scope on the upper then you could quickly switch between the two.

I would take the handle off also and mount the scope on the flat top. Thats the reason they made a flat top in the first place. NOt trying to be a smart a%$ either.

The only problem with that mount is that you cant use the irons with the scope attached since it mounts the scope so low. If it mounted the scope higher and had a hole bored to use the A2 irons, it would probably be what the OP is looking for, and I'd have one for my AR22...

I just ordered what you are looking for, it has the see through like yours, but
it extends forward about 5" more. When I called they had to look because they
thought they were all sold out, but they had one...maybe they well have two?
I found them on a yahoo search but can't remember who....?!!!
Call toll free....800-653-7890 an ask for AR scope mount MNT-991T its 8.95
plus shipping...they are probably closed but they should tell you on a recording
their hours an WHO they are an then you can yahoo search them an see what
I'm talking about.......good luck.

The rifle, as currently configured, is a compromise that leaves you with disadvantages all around.

If you want to leave the carry handle on for shooting irons, that's fine. However, for the times you want to shoot with a scope, I'd suggest picking up a LaRue quick-detach scope mount. Mount your scope in one of those, zero it, and then you can swap back and forth between the LaRue-mounted optical scope and your factory carry handle whenever you like with no shift in zero.

I have mine configured like Justin recommends. The major difference is a rail extender that I got from Brownells that allows me to mount the scope more forward than the flattop allows. Height wise, it's perfect for me.

Justin is right. The way you have it configured is the worst of all solutions. Get a QD or flip mount and a nice BUIS.

Loose the carry handle. About the only thing a detachable carry handle is good for is, if you already have one, to cut down for a cheap fixed BUIS.

Folding rear sight (Magpul makes a good one for $50) and a LaRue scope mount. Yes, it's expensive but good gear costs money.

If you're using those on your carry handle, I would think you'd also want a high cheek rest for consistent acquisition.
