As we continue to see attacks on gun ownership by the media, I see that many have contacted their elected officials to encourage them to vote no on any legislation that is negative toward legal gun ownership.

This has proven to be successful.

However........

It is only a step.

The fact is, if the numbers are correct, less than 40% of homes now own even a single gun.

In the recent past it was over 60%. The trend isn't good, and in the future if less people are shooting a call to a congressman WONT be enough.

We need more people to partake in safe gun use.

So..... With this in mind I would humbly challenge everyone to take just 3 non-shooters to the range over the next 12 months. Show them how to safely enjoy a weapon.

Over the past 2 months I have taken 4 new shooters to the range and one has already bought a pistol, and 2 of the 4 others are shopping to get one......

(Im still working on the 4th:))

Its easier than I thought.......

And, if you look at the math, it wouldnt take long to increase the number of shooters dramatically......

I can't think of 3 non-shooters from my 18 to 30 year old kids to my 73 year old in-laws and every house around here has blaze-orange airing out in nov. Lucky me right. and I say that 40% is way off . I know many that own guns that have never bought a hunting lic, or have ever done a background check . I'd bet there are 1000's more around here that are in the same "I don't own a gun club"

Kinda the same thing here. I don't actually know 3 non-shooters, except a few criminals who can't be around guns anyways.
Everybody else grew up with guns in this area.

My wife and I have been working on that by making gun owners from scratch. It's really fun, although it takes a lot longer (about 18 years, 9months) to see the efforts pay off. We've made five so far, but there is every reason to believe that they should be able to make some more themselves.

Thankfully, there are other avenues as well. I have a politically pro-gun but non-gun owner friend who since I have taken him shooting wants to become a gun owner, and he has 11 kids. I have been taking him and them shooting several times this past year. Lots of potential there.

Take that, all you anti-gunners that are trying to brainwash the next generation!:neener:

I recently got two of my lifelong friends who never owned guns to buy Mossberg 500s 20 gauges and start trap shooting.

They wanted home defense weapons, and I suggest a shotgun. I took them to shoot trap so that they would not feel the recoil, and could also get lots of practice running their new guns. Loading single rounds, and also doubles having to pump the gun after shooting.
It taught then safe practice by leaving the bolt open with others around, and also muzzle control. They are hooked on shooting trap now. They love it.
I think if I had just taken them out to shoot paper or cans they would have shot the gun five times, and said it hurt and stopped shooting. Put the gun up and that would have been that.
By shooting moving targets and seeing it react when hit kept their mind on aiming and trigger control rather than the recoil.
