Hi All

Firearms owners in Canada are under siege. We are battling a proposed handgun ban by a Liberal opportunist. Most are fighting with letters and support for their rights - and making good headway. We need the NRA in Canada, but we are making do with our own smaller organizations.

As I am a member of the NRA - I dislike it when a Canadian makes a derogatory comment towards American Firearms owners. So the reason of this post - is to apologize for our Liberal citizens - they are helplessly in trouble politically, and are making rash statements. You may hear about this in your news.

A fellow Canadian Firearms owner and a LEO in Ontario sent the following message to her Liberal riding representative after the announcement of the Handgun Ban in Canada:

I want to thank your party for making it clear who I should be supporting in the upcoming election; in addition to the millions (if not billions) of dollars that your party has stolen from Canadians since 1993, Paul Martin's speech today makes it clear that your party's word isn't worth the breath it's spoken with. After work today, I signed up as a member of the Conservative Party of Canada, along with a $100 donation.

To which the president of the Liberal riding association replied:

Several Canadians have email the Canadian Parent company of apotex.com, which is a pharmaceutical company, and appears to have taken on supporting this handgun ban, and supporting the Liberals. They have a parent company in the USA in Florida http://www.apotexcorp.com/ that may be interested to hear what support their Canadian arm is giving to the Liberals in Canada

With respect and apologies,

Lionhill

I'd rate that as good advice - not a slander!!

We have some Canadian friends who lived here for a few years due to a work contract. We were out having dinner one night, and the people at the next table were having a B-day party for an older gentleman, who looked to be about 70 or so. They presented him with a VERY nice antique sword in a gift box. I was greatly impressed and a little jealous. I failed to notice at first that my Canadian friends were in a tizzy and were a little frightened. One remarked, "this would never happen in Canada and that the police would be on their way." I was too shocked to even speak. I could never live there. Immigrate!

Hello Lionhill and welcome to the forums.

You do NOT have to apologize for the sheep in your country. As Justin pointed out - we have a pile of them down here ourselves. Fingers crossed that enough Canadians think as you and officer Cherwonak do, and that you are able to send the libs packing in the next election.

Welcome.

Keep fighting the good fight. Though futile, our cause is just, and we can't relent. The very least our governments can give us is to let us defend ourselves.

I could never live there.
Why is it, whenever threads about Canada (and Australia, too, come to think of it) come up, people say this stuff (and I'm sure many who do say this stuff have never spent much time up there)? Yes, the gun laws up North are outrageous and the lunatics are in power, but there are so many great people up there and it is truly a wonderful country in so many other respects. There is a substantial gun culture up there, and a lot of good folks fighting the good fight ...

They aren't in a place to deny you the means to. Any government that thinks it is, is comparable to medical waste in my eyes, and needs to be disposed of accordingly (incinerated). :fire:

Gee I dunno...maybe because I'd have to give up most of my guns to move there, might lose the rest after I get there...and certainly would lose my right to CC. And I won't even get into Socialized Medicine, 50% income tax, French speaking people, and everything else.

Peoples who acquiesce to being "subjects" rarely "get it" about being citizens.

No need to apologize to us for your liberal citizens. You are not responsible for them. And as was mentioned above, we have more looney tunes liberals here in the US in sheer numbers than you do in Canada.

There is not a goverment on the planet that has ever eliminated a citizens right to own guns that has not, within ten years, began a systematic process to eliminate some segment of the citizenry.

Canada does not have an out of control gun problem. Canada does have an out of control government.

+1. I live about 40 miles from Canada, Old Dog is right when he says it's a wonderful country. I visit frequently and have never had a negative experience (other than my hassles with re-entry to my country of origin).

Well, plenty of the liberals immigrated to Canada from the USA during the same time people were being drafted for Vietnam, there are quite a few of them living on the Coastal Islands in BC, I know a few personally... :neener:

You know, there are a lot of things I don't like about living here in the US anymore.

I don't like the fact that the working man now has to catch the crumbs from the rich mans table. I don't like the emminent domain thing, erosion of the 4th amendment rights, our projecting our imperial power over the globe while ignoring the needs of our own citizens......but....

Two of the main things I love are living out in the woods and hunting and gun collecting. Sad to say that 99% of the countries I really like politically, geographically and demographically do not really offer these things.

Never understood how Canada can be so difft being so close to us.

What's Mexico like gun law wise?? Are there ANY other countries that have as liberal(as in lenient:neener: ) gun laws as we do??

I understand you cannot own any military calibers in Mexico, and in most of South America as well. I think this means current or former military calibers.

A friend of mine is from Mexico originally, and tells me people can own .22s with no problems. He still collects .22s even though he lives here. He may go back some day, couldn't bring much else with him if he did.

Maybe too little too late.
Now you know why we fight at the mere mention of the word "gun control".

AFS

We fight too. They just fight dirty.

It's a hard battle when there is little to no representation in the media. They will sooner report a misquoted, or incorrect figure than say the truth. It is changing. Don't be surprised when you read about 3 countries north of the 49th. Western Canada, Ontario, and Quebec. The maritimes will be absorbed by greenland - if they'll have them.

Don't forget to tell that LEO that, in most states, he will be welcome to the US of A with OPEN ARMS! :D

You too Lion! ;)

The LEO is a she. I'd love to come. And yes, I am seriously considering this. I am 11th generation Canadian. I have direct lineage to a family in Quebec from 1655. Deserting Canada is a hard choice, but one I am willing to make to protect my children and my wife from tyranny.

The complacency and disregard for freedom is sickening here.

If there were stricter Gun and Alcohol laws in the US, I'd be a much wealthier man.

Sometimes I just wish the government would restrain me. Take away my Tequila and firearms, it's what's best for me afterall.

Nah. I can't live without my weekly range trip and Friday glass of Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia (if you enjoy a fine liquor and have not had a glass of this, you are, quite simply, missing out). Plus, the last person I need making decisions for me is John Kerry.

For a number of years Mexico did not allow personal ownership of firearms, a reason air guns of up to .50 cal. are in serious development in Mexico.
However, this spring, the Mexican Congress passed a law that allows Mexican citizens to own 2 firearms, I have no idea how many restrictions there are as to who and where,as well as what calibers.I suppose they still ban all "Military" calibers, which include such as .30-06, .308, 30-30, 7x57mm and even .44-40, as , at one time , all these were used by armed groups in Mexico.

My old Usenet persona jumped ugly a moment ago...

I sent this to that addy:

"Oh, the wit, the verve.

Haven't you ever considered for a moment that some folks might just like to be able to defend themselves, rather than depend on the police?
"

May not be totally high-road, but it might be amusing to see just what befalls...

We had a Mexican national tell us that pistols are OK (up to .38) but rifles are hard to get. Rifles are, after all, more a threat to the government.
