As you might have heard, Paul Martin (the prime minister of Canada, Liberal Party) has promised to ban handguns if he is re-elected in the federal election scheduled for January 23, 2006. As Canadian gun owners, we have seen this coming for a long time; restrictions have become progressively tighter, causing black market firearms to become a profitable enterprise for criminals. Proof of this is the recent increase in shootings in Toronto. Due to restrictive legislation, criminals now have more guns than ever before. The Liberal government has decided to continue down this destructive road, which will of course lead only to the death of more innocent Canadians. Soon all firearms will be banned, and everyone will be vulnerable, as criminals DO NOT turn in their weapons.
We in the gun community know very well what happens next. Criminals, knowing that their victims are unable to defend themselves, run rampant in the streets. Innocent people are murdered for a few dollars. Homes are invaded. Women and children are raped at gunpoint, their husbands and fathers shot dead. This is not wild imagination or fiery rhetoric; it has actually happened and has been documented in Brazil, Mexico, Australia and Britain, where firearms bans are law. Of course, many people do not know of these facts as the governments who implemented these laws do not encourage the reporting of their failures. Reports that have been published have indicated gun crime INCREASES a minimum of three times pre-ban levels. That is 300%! And are we to believe that leftist parties would allow true documentation and reporting of the death and suffering THEIR LAWS inflicted on honest citizens?
As Canadian gun owners, we ask our brothers and sisters in America to help us retain our freedom. If this law is passed, it will bring gun control much closer to the USA. Our fight will soon become your fight. However, there is still time.
American politics and media both have profound effects north of the border. Please write to your elected representative, contact the media, phone or email everyone you know. Your voices will be heard.
We also ask the NRA and its members to support us in this effort. NRA influence has been the deciding factor in many of these issues, and we need your experience, organization and political influence more now than ever. Support Canadian gun owner’s organizations and the Conservative party, and help Canadians bring the tyranny of the Liberal party to an end.
Not everyone who is reading this supports gun ownership. If you believe guns are the problem, consider this: Would you post a sign in your front yard stating “THIS IS A GUN-FREE HOME”? And if so, how long do you honestly believe you and your family would be safe? A firearms ban effectively posts this exact sign. You are protected by the fact that honest, law-abiding civilians own guns and will use them to prevent attacks on their families. While you might never own or use a firearm, your neighbors might, and few criminals wish to be shot.
If everyone who reads this uses their influence to stop this blatant attack on freedom, perhaps we can cage the Liberal anti-gun beast and continue to feel safe in our homes and communities. Feel free to copy and post this in as many places as possible. The message must be passed on. Thank you for your time and God bless.

It was with dismay that I learned of your promised handgun ban. How is it that you can do this to loyal law abiding Canadian citizens who are gun enthusiasts? These people are a credit to Canada and a credit to good people everywhere in the world. They are peaceful and law abiding citizens who have done nothing wrong and have never hurt anyone. Why are you punishing them?
You aren't stopping crime. You aren't stopping anything but Canadian
citizens who should be able to defend themselves, their homes, their
property, and their families. Communities won't be safer because the
people won't be safer. You won't get the guns out of the gangs and
organized criminal element. It can not happen. It failed in Mexico, it failed in Brazil, it failed in Britain, and it is failing in Australia. It has failed
everywhere else in the world with such restrictions or bans on
firearms of any kind. The only hope is to let people protect
themselves.
Any sort of gun - yes, even the handguns you are so afraid of - are
tools. They are inanimate objects. They have done nothing to hurt
anyone or anything. They have been used for evil by evil people, and
they have been used for good by good people. A ban will only stop the
good from having them.
With such a ban, you will be stripping your citizens of an enjoyable
and necessary sport.
