Talk Me Out Of A Colt Gunsite 1911 For Duty

I've carried an M1911 all my life (except for my first tour in Viet Nam, when I carried a Colt M357.) I personally don't think there is a better pistol.

You're getting a gun that started out as top-of-the-line and has been improved from there. Go for it.

:)

Johnny,

I trust you'll be so kind as to return the favor when I (as I inevitably must,)
'typo' my way around here. But, no, I was just pointing out that there seem
to be other valid reasons to choose a 1911, aside from agency spec/issue,
personal affection or dedication.

:)

Dr J FRAME what did you do to get the wood piece out, how did it get in there, and how large was it? Should I have a gunsmith look over my gunsite before I start carrying it? What should I have him check?

Does anyone have a 25 or 50 yard bench rest or avereage accurecey?

I carried a blued Springer 1911 for about 10 years and then I discovered the Glock 35 which is the same size as a 1911. The 35 shoots great right out of the box. Mine is a L/E blue label with a 5.5 lb trigger.

The Springer suffered from holster wear.....and now so does the 35, but who cares? The 35 won't rust from sweat, rain or snow. The main advantage is it has mags with 15 rounds of .40 rather than 8 rounds of .45. I shoot both about the same which on a bad day is about 90% with no rounds off the aiming black.

The 35 has night sights which I feel are a must for any L/E sidearm. If I were looking at a new pistol for duty I would look hard at the 35 if I liked the size and feel of a 1911. By the way, I'm very pro 1911 and they will always have reserved place in my brace.

Dr J FRAME what did you do to get the wood piece out,
Found the debris causing the wedging during disassembly. Could have happened with any 1911 design.

how did it get in there,
Probably took a ride inside during a mag insertion. I had chainsaw shavings all over my person and gear.

and how large was it?
The size of a standard chainsaw shaving.

Should I have a gunsmith look over my gunsite before I start carrying it? What should I have him check?
Has it proved 100% reliable with your issue ammo yet. If so, there should be little need for a gunsmith.

Go to 1911forum.com and type "Gunsite" into the field and search the Colt forum. Titles only. Lots of archives.

Hey guys. I really looked into it and figured I do much better with a long trigger and different grips therefore I set cost aside and decided on the wilson combat protector 5''. It is perfect :)

I did the same I was going to get the Sig GSR. When I wanted a rail gun but after hearing the varied reliability reports. I changed my mind and bought a Wilson CQB. I may have paid almost 3 times what I paid for my Kimber but the gun is reliable and damn accurate. When you buy a Wilson there is no question that your going to get a good gun. They actually test their stuff before it leaves the factory.
