I carried a blued Springer 1911 for about 10 years and then I discovered the Glock 35 which is the same size as a 1911. The 35 shoots great right out of the box. Mine is a L/E blue label with a 5.5 lb trigger.
The Springer suffered from holster wear.....and now so does the 35, but who cares? The 35 won't rust from sweat, rain or snow. The main advantage is it has mags with 15 rounds of .40 rather than 8 rounds of .45. I shoot both about the same which on a bad day is about 90% with no rounds off the aiming black.
The 35 has night sights which I feel are a must for any L/E sidearm. If I were looking at a new pistol for duty I would look hard at the 35 if I liked the size and feel of a 1911. By the way, I'm very pro 1911 and they will always have reserved place in my brace.
