Looks like this thread has started a lot of people in the market for one. Not good news with what looks to me like a shortage of them around for sale. But you've gotta admit, they do have a certain appeal to them.

On a side note, I think should be a picture thread too. I don't think I can look at enough of them.

in part because of it's condition, for $425 I would expect a excellent condition...

Yeah, that's a pretty substantial chunk of wood missing. There's not much you can do to fix that. Just guessing, I'd say replacement stocks for those are even harder to find than the gun as a whole.

Beauty Mark?

I guess with that size chunk from the stock and the price the guy is asking, he's considering that missing chunk a beauty mark.:scrutiny:

I sent the seller a message and I got two messages from two different people. One said that the gun has just been sold. The second one I got said that the gun is being sold for another individual and they aren't budging on the price.

The Fr-8 is great baseball bat that shots, I wrapped my in 550 cord, I can bang the gong at 150yrs all day long with that carbine, I love the looks I get when people see her. If I were you, Buy It! you wont be disappointed, You can shoot Nato and Winchester out it, Nice action, Great Truck gun, and will never be on a ban list! Good luck

and will never be on a ban list!
Unless they follow the lead of other countries and ban military calibers from civilian ownership. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love mine. It has taken up residence as my backup shtf rifle. And it's a blast to plink with. But while it's less "scary" than an EBR, it's not ban-proof.

Well I guess I need to articulate my Not on a ban list, Yes I would agree that everything is "Bannable" I was refering to the Semi Auto "Black Rifles" That so many people including members of the NRA would not mind being banned! My yardstick when it comes to "Banned" Lists is simple, If you can own it in California than chances are You can own it in the lower 48. Does that clear it up? I am sorry I offended the Purists with my "Banned" Comment. By there definition everything is subject to ban right?
Slack the Diver!

use patience Olympus.Keep tabs on the auction sites and eventually one at a decent price will come up.

Well let's change directions here for a minute. What are some similar options to buying an FR-8? I'm talking mainly bolt-action carbine length rifles. Since these FR-8s are so hard to find, are there any other similar models that might not be so hard to find? Would you consider the Enfield Jungle Carbine to be similar to the FR-8? What are some other options?

I found mine talking with my mechanic while he worked on my car a few years ago...got talking guns and he said he had one for sale if I was interested. FR-8 for $225? SOLD!

They really are about the coolest Milsurp carbines around.

Old Jimmy:

You hit it exactly on the head! These were designed to get Spanish soldiers up to speed on the sights etc. of the new Cetme rifles. That is indeed the same bayo lug and flash hider. btw, the tube under the barrel is accessible through a cap on the end and accepts a cleaning kit or whatever else you would like to put in there.

Olympus:

The other carbine length bolt actions are the Mosin Nagant series M38 and M44. These two are basically identical except for the integral folding bayonet on the M44. They are also much easier to find although the supply has seemed to dry up in the surplus market. They fire the 7.62X54R cartridge which is in the .308 class of performance. I have two M38 and one M44. They are a BLAST to shoot. (Those of you who own one of these know what I mean  )
