I recently bought a four inch GP-100 from a friend who never used it much. While shooting it this weekend I discovered that even with the rear sight all the way down it shoots very high at 25 yards - 5-6 inches with 125 grain bullets and 10-12 inches with 158 grain bullets.

I've found lots of replacement sights by searching the Web, especially the Brownells and Ruger sites, but none of them indicate that they're any taller than the stock sight. Does anyone know if there are taller sights available?

Thanks Infidel. Actually it looks like the already-shaped extra height Redhawk sight is what I want. Reading the descriptions it appears that it will work on my GP-100 also, but I just sent email to Bowen to make sure.

$34.95 though. Sure glad I got a good deal on the revolver.

Call Ruger Customer service at 603-865-2442, you'll need to know your serial number, they will be able to send you a correct height sight or a variety of front sight to try out. Ruger has great customer service.

I called Ruger service and although they don't have different sights available they offered to check out the revolver if I wanted to send it in. I think the easier and cheaper solution will be to order the Bowen sight.

Thanks to all who replied.

I hear they are good about this. I've never had any trouble with my Ruger's though.

Oh - I didn't mean to imply anything "funny" about limp wristing. Nut'en funny about that.

Near as I can remember this is the first Ruger I've had a problem with. Since I was shooting two other handguns that day, and hitting about as close to POA as I ever do, I figured I wasn't limp-wristing the GP-100. And I knew what you meant. :D

Just FYI: Bowen offers a rear adjustable sight called the Rough Country that is a huge improvement over the Ruger factory sight. Not saying you need one, just wanted to make you aware.
