Tanfoglio damaged locking lugs

Hi all,

First time posting but have been lurking for a while. Mostly to read 1911 Tuner (and friends')
threads.

Anyway, I've got a problem with a Tanfoglio which has chewed out its locking lugs pretty
badly as you'll see from the attached images. I know they're pretty well stuffed and I will
have to replace the slide and barrel but what I really want to know is the cause. Interested
to hear (read) your thoughts.

Possible causes - improperly located slide and/or barrel lugs, incorrect barrel lower lug fitting, some combination of the above.
