I just picked up a tantal, and its rear sight elevation adjustment block actually blocks the little notch in the rear sight. Are Tantals suppose to be this way?!??! :what:

you could try getting a differnt rear sight as in from a differnt country they take about 5 seconds to change out

I had the same problem

You aren't the only one who's had this problem. I just got an Interarms Tantal from Atlantic, and while everything else looked nice, I immediately noticed the sliding barrel on the rear sight was installed upside down. I wasn't about to send it back for repairs given that I already waited 6 weeks to receive it. It's really easy to fix.

If you lift up the rear sight plate (the part with the numbers written on it) look towards the front where the plate hinges. Underneath is a springy piece of metal. Take flathead screwdriver, and put some electrical tape on the head so you don't scratch up the finish. Take a rag and wrap it around the handle of the screwdriver. Push down on the metal below the front sight with all your body weight. I straddled my unloaded Tantal and pushed down, to give you an idea of how much force is required. The rear sight plate should be pretty easy to get out once you see how it's actually held in. It rides on two grooves on either side. One you pull the sight out, it should be pretty easy to figure out what to do. Take the sliding barrel off and put it back right-side up. Reinstall everything just as you removed it. It took me 2 minutes to fix, and as you can tell by this tutorial I don't know my AK-parts and terminology very well.

Lincoln, I have done exactly the same thing you posted after a day I posted this thread. Mine is also Interarms Tantal from Atlantic. I guess they screwed up a batch of them.

Did yours come with left side selector switch and a lever, instead of a screw, to release handguards?

I have a left side switch, but it doesn't work. It moves along with the right side safety lever. I also have a screw for the handguards.

I just responded because I was hoping you didn't send it back to the dealer or manufacturer, take it to gunsmith, or spend money buying a new sight. You probably waited a good six weeks for your rifle too, it sucks to have to send it for repairs.

First I bought the Century Tantal, and when I did the bullet drop test the muzzle swallowed the bullet whole. So I sent it back and got a full refund, and ordered an Interarms version from Atlantic.

if you have a drill press this works like 10000 times better. i take the rear sight and spring off when i demill my ak kits

I waited 3 months for mine, I lost the excitement of having a new rifle while I was waiting that when I received it; I wasn't so pysched. I honestly believe they lost my order, as they could not find the order under my name. They needed me to send the email I received after I placed my order. After they received that email, they sent the rifle within 2 weeks.
