I put a pin-on AK74 style muzzle brake on my MAK-90 about 15 years ago. Pretty sure I ordered it from Tapco. Somewhere north of 6000 rounds later, it flew off the end of the barrel this weekend. Rest in peace, old friend.

I'd like to put another one on, but it looks like Tapco doesn't sell them any more. They have a threaded one that looks identical, but my barrel isn't threaded and I don't really want to go to that trouble. Anyone know if the similar ones by New Century (is that a new "Century" brake?) or NcStar are worth buying? I know that NcStar doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to optics. How about a no-name?

We make an excellent brake/suppressor unit for the AK that pins directly to the barrel. The ones that use a long pin to latch it onto the front sight are a joke, the pin eventually fails and the brake gets launched. Ours uses two hardened dowel pins that are fully enclosed and guaranteed to stay in place. We even have a drilling jig to help the DIY-types do the installation themselves. US-made also for 922r compliance and guaranteed for life.
