My wife just got her first rifle, a wood stock WASR 10. She loves it, and it's a beautiful firearm, the only problem is that it seems to kick a bit more than the average Kalash in 7.62. It leaves her sholder hurting after a magazine and in the prone position is hurts her collar bone too much to be confortable. My AMD 65 with the stock muzzle brake kicks MUCH less. Her WASR doesn't have a brake at all, just something like a washer threaded onto the barrel.

So my question is, what brake would reduce felt recoil the most? The traditional slanted brake, or something with ports like the 74 brake? We're on a limited budget, so I can't afford anything over $30, give or take. Could someone with expierence weigh in?

I did find these...

The slat brakes really don't do much in controlled semi-auto fire. Full auto is what they were designed to function the best with, and that's when you notice the fullest effect of them.

A lot of the 74-style brakes on the market are more looks than they are function, unless you get a true 74 brake with an expansion chamber and ports. True 74 brakes are very effective though, at the expense of more noise.

I like the krinkov style brakes. The make a big difference in muzzle climb, I'm not too sure about recoil though.

Another option would be a PSL brake. They honestly reduce felt recoil.

A quick Google search didn't turn any up for sale though. You should be able find one if you look hard enough.

The washer on your gun is probably tack welded on, but a minute with a Dremel tool can take care of that. There is a spring detent that needs to be depressed while you take it off. Also, remember that it is a left handed thread, so righty-loosy, lefty-tighty.
