Back in September, just after the AWB died, I ordered 6 magazines from TAPCO. These were supposed to be unused 30-rounders, Teflon coated with green followers, and were advertised as having been made and marked as being for law enforcement use only during the ban. The price was good ($11.99 each), and I wanted a piece of history - a genuine banned magazine that I could show to my kids and anyone else that I would like to teach about the idiocy of the AWB and gun control.

Fast forward to today - I finally got the mags. They are, indeed, new Teflon-coated 30-rounders with green followers. They are all manufactured by D&H Industries, Inc., and the floorplates say "Restricted Law Enforcement Government Use Only." OK, fine. EXCEPT that the floorplates themselves have the following code: 04T04. This says to me that they were made in the 4th quarter of 2004, i.e. AFTER the AWB expired. Further, 5 of the mags have "12 04" stamped into the body of the mag itself, and 1 has "1 05" stamped into the side. I strongly suspect that these mags were made AFTER the AWB expired, and that they therefore do NOT live up to being an authentic piece of history.

BTW, I called TAPCO and the guy on the phone said that they were pre-ban mags. Of course he did - he didn't want me to return the product. However, in view of the length of time needed to deliver them to me, I think that these are freshly made, not something that suddenly was found in a warehouse after sitting there for a few years.

Comments?

TAPCO took way to many orders and were forced to order new mags to fill those orders. If I recall, TAPCO took a hit on the cost of those mags because the new ones cost more than the actual post-ban LEO mags they had in stock. So they actually sold you new mags for less than what they paid for them.

If you want a true LEO restricted mag with the proper date on it check the EE on AR15.com.

Or PM me and I'll happily swap you one of my pre 09/04 mags for two of your new DH mags.

Sam Adams, when did you order your mags, I am trying to figure out when mine will show up. mine were ordered on 10-4 at 7:30 am. I got some of the first batch that was sent out and they are great mags and want to know if my credit card will expire before they ship the next batch of them.
thanks

Yeah, that's kind of strange. I ordered 5 from CDNN, and ended up with Colt parked mags, mostly stamped 96 or 98, complete with authentic ban period LEO/Military crusted on fouling. I'd wager D&H had huge demand, and just kept running the production line to fill the orders. I'm sure lots of people would be happy to swap you if you absolutely must have ban period mags.

I picked up a few USP .45 mags labeled LEO or Military use because it was looking like HK wasn't being dilligent in shipping high caps after the ban ended.

You know, it still looks that way... :fire:

I ordered my mags within a week after the AWB expired. You probably have a week or two to go before you receive yours. BTW, my credit card did expire, so they emailed me about the order.

In other words, TAPCO LIED about delivering a "high capacity" magazine that was actually produced during the AWB. They will be getting a nasty phone call tomorrow AM.

Don't get me wrong, the mags are high quality, and are priced reasonably...but they aren't what I ordered. This ticks me off, ESPECIALLY when I specifically asked the rep whether these were actual banned magazines.

As for the 2 for 1 deal - nice try. :)
