Hello all. This is my first post and from what I've seen it looks like there are a lot of knowledgeable people who visit here.

Well, here's a question. I have a .22 Colt revolver that has "Official Police" on the 6 inch barrel. The rear of the cylinder is not recessed for the cartridge rims. The serial numbers are all matching and indicate a production date around 1931. BUT, it has target sights exactly like an Officer's Model Target. The front sight is adjustable for elevation and the rear sight is dove-tailed into the flat top frame and is screw adjusted for windage.

What do I have here? A transition model of some kind? A special order?

I have some pictures if somebody wants to see it.

Sounds like you have a custom Official Police.

Back in the 30's and 40's custom gunsmithing companies like the famed King's Gun Works specialized in altering standard revolvers like the Official Police, or enhancing Target models like the Colt Officer's Model Target.

It's very doubtful that this was done at Colt, since they would have used the Officer Model as the base gun.
