Hello:

For those who have more experience shooting paper than I do, when you take aim at a target do you let the sights drift down the target to your point of aim, be it a center hold or six o'clock position or do you come up from below the bullseye?

Is one of these methods proven to be better than the other or more widely accepted than the other?

Thanks for any information.

Pete

I find that I do best when using controled breathing.
Hold on target and watch the sights move as you breath. Typically, the sights will drop as you exhale. So what you do to shoot is take a breath, leaving your sights a little high on the target. Start exhaling slowly and when your sights drop to the right spot, stop exhaling and start your trigger squeeze.

I'm assuming you mean off hand shooting for this question. Each shooter is different and you have to find what works for you. Like you said some come from the top down, others bottom up..some like to go from side to side. You have to accept your wobble area. Nobody holds the sights perfectly still on the target nor do they move perfectly up and down or side to side. What you need to do is dry fire and practice your position. With a lot of practice your wobble area will decrease. Along with that, shot discipline is a big factor. If you find yourself rushing your shot because you need to take a breath, take the rifle down and start over. Trigger control is another biggy. If you're on target, take the shot. Take up the trigger slack while you're acquiring the target and once you're settled, dont jerk it, but rapidly squeeze it the rest of the way. As far as the other positions, the sights should not move unless your pulse is affecting you.
